this is beyond just an indie. there has always been skepticism over the developer and the size of the team compared to the sheer amount of hype. but this was always being hyped as an amazing exclusive for the PS4.

I never really though too much of it because when you put it up against Star Citizen and so on it's hard to get excited.

and as anyone familiar with space games know, proc most times sucks. but this is this developers first outing isn't it? so it's a game they know.

maybe it's good. who knows. but this idea that $60 is too much for an indie is jumping to conclusions, first, because Sony were behind this thing as one of their big killer titles, and second, de game is not even out yet bros.

Proceduraly generated content usually has sucked and i feel it's because it also usually means random....or as random as you can make something.

I feel this game is different because while it's still technically random based on the seed number, once they've locked the universe everything is simply waiting to be rendered. If you travel to another galaxy, but then return to the same planet....it will be rendered the exact same way again which i find nice. (minus any permanent changes made by players of course).

Tbere a few vids where they explained what they're doing under the hood... Also... A few real scientists have spoken with hello games about using their code to generate real simulations to study... As well ws learn how they're so good at making naturally looking landscapes. I find that impressive.
Bloody hell people, instead of endless moan about "what it would be", "what do you do?", do some research.
There is a ton of information about the game, and for the things that they aren't showing on purpose there's a explanation for the developer itself (like in video, from his mouth moving and saying words) for you to judge.
The spaceship going into space reminded me of an old game called Breed.
Wait, people are mad about the price tag? Isn't it supposed to be a *good thing* that small developers are starting to make things as ambitious as No Man's Sky? We're not exactly talking SNES Love Letter #5406 or Minecraft On A Stick, here. Whether preordering a game with many question marks makes sense is a legitimate topic, but common sense dictates that top-tier games gonna charge top-tier prices. Surely people weren't thinking that they'd get to have their cake and eat-

I for one have been sorely disappointed by Indie games in the past as I don't find anything really innovative about the games I have played. (Note the phrase "I have played.") I loose production value with an indie game and don't actually get anything I can't get from a AAA developer, except maybe mechanics that are a decade old which I don't find to be a selling feature nostalgic bias doesn't rule my decision making.

This said while I am well aware that Hellogames is a indie developer with one successful release under their belt before 'No man's sky,' the game doesn't feel like an indie title. The game seems to ME to be a game developed by a large studio. ( I am well aware that it was not.) I can't say if the game is worth it price point because I haven't played it and I haven't seen any reviews of people who have played it, so any position I am taking would be based solely on speculation and not on any factual evidence.

What I am glad to see is a small developer like hellogames is willing to put out a DRM free version of their game into the wild. I plan on buying this game from GOG once the embargo is lifted and assuming I like the reviews I am seeing, and not steam to show the industry that DRM free doesn't mean lost sales.
Regarding the pricetag
Games are luxury items, its not something you really need.
Having said that i sometimes complain about the price as well
however in this case i think the price is fine
It doesnt really look like your average indie game.
This looks like more of a triple AAA game from a big studio if you ask me.

I even enjoyed Daredevil and Ghost Rider movie. :P
I`m usually first to knock down overhyped projects but the sheer ignorance surrounding this game and projected in comments here and elsewhere is truly mindboggling - and also depressing.

Up till last week, okay, there could be some worries about this being another kinda "walk simulator" or exploration "game" as the actual gameplay was kept under wraps. But with the news blowout now we know it`s a proper game. Read this:

There`s tons of things to do and mechanics governing gameplay: survival, exploration, combat, discovery, destructible environments, police wanted levels, trade, alien linguistics, factions.... It`s genuinely extremely exciting now. How on Earth (ha-ha) could it not be? If it all gels together out this game will be a true star (ha-ha-ha), the like of which this stale gaming industry sorely needs.

To people bitching about "randomness": you realize one of the most celebrated games in history (and a blueprint for this); Elite is procedurally generated? Besides, it`s 2016 - one would think roguelike concepts should be much more understood - and celebrated? i can`t wait to find out if indeed this can be played in RL or Ironman mode.

To people bitching about price: Yeah, it`s a lot. But if it offers maybe not even hundreds, but years of gameplay - like a good roguelike would - is it not worth it? You`d pay it for Morrowind or GTA without blinking right?

To people bitching about: "but y u no online"? Ummm...what happened to bitching about lack of SP in Elite: Dangerous or Star Citizen? Now you get a proper spacefaring game concentrating on SP....rejoice, goddamit.

To people bitching about "but what`s there to do...somebody gimme a quest or a massive red arrow to a target" - well, I cannot help you here :) If a prospect of living in a fully realised galaxy is not enough, and you need a "boss at the centre" (genuine comment from Gamespot lol) then I rest my case.
I just read that gamespot article. It sounds like an incredible project. Sort of like a Metroid MMO but without players. According to this article apparently you won't see too many players because of the overly large world and that sounds great. That way you will be happy when you see someone and it will be a unique experience rather than the expected grouping done in most persistent online games.
If only this game had a multiplayer coop....
Is not this game kind of MMO? How it can be DRM-free? Does the server is DRM-Free too?
Also didn't expect to see this game on GOG. Not that I could run it on my machine, but hell yeah!

As for the pre-ordert, meh!
