No Man's Sky a science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available to pre-order now — DRM-free on GOG.com

Intergalactic travel changes the notion of time. Unimaginable speeds connect impossibly distant worlds, dilating lifetimes, blending generations. A round-trip may find your world aged and unrecognizable, separated from your loved ones, irrevocably alien. In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid and with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as our lifetimes are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — populated with explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.
The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means stand your ground in fight.
Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

The pre-order incentive for No Man's Sky includes the Horizon Omega ship — faster engines, better guns, all to kickstart your trip and help you survive longer on the interstellar journey.

Reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, available for pre-orders now, DRM-free on GOG.com! The game is scheduled to be released on June 21st in North America, June 22nd in Europe and Australia, and June 24th in the UK and Rest of World.
Sad to see so many negative posts. Try to think of it this way... Even if the game is over-hyped and turns out to be less than you expected, so what? You're supporting a studio that dreams big, takes risks, and (regardless of anything else) has created something that's a technical milestone in space-flight sims. The first game in the series will have rough edges - that's pretty much a given. There IS going to be something you don't like, probably several somethings... maybe those things will be fixed after release, maybe they won't. But by supporting the studio you're essentially investing in NMS2 and the chance to get the *next* experience, which will have more polish, more cool features, and fewer rough edges. $60 to ensure that Hello Games has the resources to make NMS2? Done.

stysio: What's 30 days money-back guarantee good for if the game is released in over 100 days? It's the same practice that we see all over the place; place your money in our pocket, get used to getting by without your money, never think about asking for a refund.

Kingpuddycat: That's actually a very good point. You have no chance to play the game, or even know if it works properly until well after the 30 day mark.

Unless it's 30 days after its release perhaps?

My rule of thumb, don't pre-order anything and wait a few months after the reviews are out to get an idea of what your looking at.
The Money-Back Guarantee is indeed valid for 30 days after release. Like you say, it doesn't really apply before that — you can cancel your pre-order at any point before release for whatever reason.
Unexpected :) Instab... err... wishlisted. 70 $ is a bit much for an impulsebuy preorder.

any comments on 100% price increase in some region?
Oh just a public service announcement for anyone jonesing for some "No Man's Sky-lite" action.

I played a great little game I'm sure not many people have heard of that ALSO allows for some ground battling and flight sim action (though in a smaller universe and without the transitions).

Salvation Prophecy

I was able to pick it up on the cheap DRM free on Amazon - hadn't heard of it and was a bit of an impulse buy but the game was just a ton of fun. And with just the right amount of depth to it; with a lot of "extra" stuff to do (upgrade your ship, unlock new abilities, even a "4X" sort of minigame where you eventually have to keep your systems defended and with a full complement of troops / ships).

Highly recommend it.

ok but, seriously...
"No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe."

Well, computer scientists would be happy to get a grip on the algorithms I guess.

Does anybody know about the gameplay? Is there a demo version or beta?

I don't have anywhere near the money to buy this game, right now, but when I can afford to do so, I'm definitely buying it from GOG.
Look ma, no hands!

Or feet for that matter... but I love the moonwalking antelope. :)

I think it's mostly about exploring, you can find different kind of animals and planets but if there's any deeper mechanics in ways you can interact with them I'm not sure. I know some developer mentioned in a video that you can upgrade your suit and your ship which gives access to new, more dangerous areas (sort of like Power Ups in Metroidvania games). It sounds fun but limited. After a few hours I don't see myself returning to this if there's nothing else.

The whole multiplayer aspect about leaving a mark without interacting with other players sound very interesting to me, I know of only one other game that does that.

I like this too:

You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal mysteries of the universe.

The release dates are messed up?

to be released on June 21st in North America, June 22nd in Europe and Australia, and June 24th in the UK and Rest of World.

Since when has the UK not being in europe??
Game description and hype about it reminds me a little of Spore. Let's hope this ends up better...

I would like to know if gameplay includes any elements based on skill like shooting, platforming or anything like that. Because if it's only about having a walk in an extraterrestrial zoo, then it might be not enough for my taste.

??? indeed

maybe they had insight information regarding the current things going on in the big EU....
with all the talks about grexits, brexits, everyone is 'complaining' but the dumb netherlands is not cause they always want to be the boy that behaves best in class and will never shame its teachers (kinda weak )
Anyway nothing we dutch people can change about that, cause our 'soft' goverment decides what will happen.

SirPrimalform: Surely there's only a region-free price if it doesn't have regional pricing? If one territory is paying more than another, then by definition it has at least two regions...
avatar
Grargar: Well, you could call it the base price out of which all the rest of the regions derive.
avatar
SirPrimalform: I think I get what you're saying though. You mean the 'base' (US) price?
avatar
Grargar: More or less.
Yeah, I was mostly arguing that the term "region-free price" wasn't appropriate.
60 euros for a singleplayer indie game .. haha
