What possible harm can one crazy, mutant tentacle do?

Day of the Tentacle, the grand return of the grandest adventure of all, is available for pre-order now, only on GOG.com with a 10% discount for the first two weeks!

A crazy mutant tentacle is on the loose, plotting to take over the world. How you ask? That's not important right now! We need to be thinking about the how, just how are we going to fix this? Super simply, by going back to yesterday!

Alongside Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Sam & Max, and Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle sits without question among the legendary golden-era adventures. Now, straight from the early '90s, Day of the Tentacle arrives in our dystopian future of 2016 — back for a blast from the past for those who missed it, and a shot of nostalgia for those who just miss it.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is all the adventure you may remember with an optional layer of sweet improvements on top. You can mix and match between the unmistakably 1990s pixely art and a fresh high-res coat of paint, remastered audio, and an all new interface. There are extra goodies in the Remastered release as well, including in-game developer commentary and a fully playable version of the original Maniac Mansion. Your pre-order also comes with three exclusive Day of the Tentacle wallpapers, available right away to fuel your anticipation.

But don't take our word for it. Take it from the guy behind it all:

Welcome back to the Day of the Tentacle, available for pre-order now, exclusively on GOG.com! The pre-order discount will last for two weeks, until March 22, 8:59 PM GMT.

You should ask Sega about that. They are the publishers.

tfishell: Very cool, but it would have been nice to get the original DOS version here for Mac and Linux users. Also, we need more LucasArts games. ;-)
The version should be for Mac and Linux, but GOG hasn't received all the relevant info yet.

I know. ;) But I guess it's more likely that they will consider a release here if Mr. Schafer talks to them.

Although Day of the Tentacle is one of my (very few) favourite games, based on experienses on Monkey Island and Grim Fandango remakes, I pass.

What was wrong with the GF remaster?
Didn't have many issues myself.
You know I don't usually pre-order games but......

maz.588: This is an awesome news.

Now, please, bring in some translations. At least the original ones.

I am myself waiting for either the DOS version included, or a massive discount.
same here.... 9.99 would be a reasonable list price
and 99% guarantee we wont be ending up in bugland with this new version, (opengl3.x stuff and that, brrr gives me the shivers, just use old dx90c or so :D

the old (scumm) version seems to work a charm, no problems, no bugs so far ...

15 bucks or more would only be justifiable for new games :D
remakes should never cost almost 2 the price of the classic one.

It looked like a fan remake. The point&click controls were taken from a fan mod. There were also a mod for reworking the characters with higher resolution and higher polygon count. The ResidualVM also solved nearly all of the bugs from the original game. And that's nearly all of the things that were taken care of the remastered version.

Also, the backgrounds wasn't updated, and that was a huge letdown for me.

So, yeah, it looks and feels like a fan remake and not a remastered version from the original creator.

So you mean it`s a case of "We let the fans do the work and cash the money for doing nothing!"?

Thats it... now i remember seeing this 'remake' it was done by fans...
long time ago i read about a remake, first i thought they would attempt making it using AGS 3.x
i lost track of the project (forgot to bookmark it, usally i bookmark anything that might look interesting)

If it has to do with a kinda of fan remake....

Anyway
with €1.40 Off any future purchases. and the 10% off it might be worth it, but i read the B word... BUGS
seems these guys love bugs soo much they even use them in the games in the code that is.
I love gaming and spend hours, but i hate spending even a few minutes in bug solving , looking online for solutions and or patches, installing loads of c++ driver crap and more stuff that in the end wont work.

just googled for it and:

and

if it is a fan remake, made by just a fan, this commercial version looks the same... ouch....
if true i hope they paid this guy some nice cash :D

Weird, I hope the devs of those mods got some of the cash. :l

I wouldn't say that, because the texture and model upgrades wasn't fully created, and they did it themselves. But calling it a remaster is like calling the Final Fantasy VII - VIII (that is currently on Steam) a remaster.
The main work was to update it to run on current operating systems.

And what are you dreaming of at night?
I can thankfully resist the urge to buy this now as the DOS talkie version is still playable today, even on my mobile device. Happy to see this get released though. Long overdue.
Sorry if I missed this in previous posts, but as someone who didn't get to play most of these games when they were originally released, how important is playing Maniac Mansion before playing this one?

I know MM is playable within DotT, but unless they make it so you can play it from the menu...
