What possible harm can one crazy, mutant tentacle do?

<span class="bold">Day of the Tentacle</span>, the grand return of the grandest adventure of all, is available for pre-order now, only on GOG.com with a 10% discount for the first two weeks!

A crazy mutant tentacle is on the loose, plotting to take over the world. How you ask? That's not important right now! We need to be thinking about the how, just how are we going to fix this? Super simply, by going back to yesterday!

Alongside Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Sam & Max, and Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle sits without question among the legendary golden-era adventures. Now, straight from the early '90s, Day of the Tentacle arrives in our dystopian future of 2016 — back for a blast from the past for those who missed it, and a shot of nostalgia for those who just miss it.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is all the adventure you may remember with an optional layer of sweet improvements on top. You can mix and match between the unmistakably 1990s pixely art and a fresh high-res coat of paint, remastered audio, and an all new interface. There are extra goodies in the Remastered release as well, including in-game developer commentary and a fully playable version of the original Maniac Mansion. Your pre-order also comes with three exclusive Day of the Tentacle wallpapers, available right away to fuel your anticipation.

But don't take our word for it. Take it from the guy behind it all: <div class="embedded_video"><iframe class="embedded_video__file" width="775" height="436" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jsHKPPHdm7o" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>

Welcome back to the <span class="bold">Day of the Tentacle</span>, available for pre-order now, exclusively on GOG.com! The pre-order discount will last for two weeks, until March 22, 8:59 PM GMT.

I already own the orginal game (that looked much more charming in my eyes) on retail disc and it works fine on modern computers. So there's no need to buy this regionally priced (with higher price points than the base price) remaster version.

I'd rather buy the original DOS version (since it runs in ScummVM/DosBox), given that there is no linux support. Getting these "remastered" versions to run with WINE can be real pain sometimes. I urge GOG to add the original as an optional goodie, otherwise I'll have to skip this (great, beyond doubt) game.

...until it was double fine.

not buying until gog has a fire sale and this is dirt cheap.

i refuse to give [too much] money to tim.

oksapoiss: Considering Tim made the game I don´t understand the sentiment. Unless it is something-something-gamergate.
Less about that and more about him being a terrible developer in the sense of this:

1. They blew their 2-3 million dollar budget on Broken Age and released it i 2 parts, and they were asking for only 2-300,000 dollars.

2. That Space Age-SF1 was a broken unpolished mess and they pulled the plug of that game.

3. The Grim Fandango remastered was bugged and broken at launch, how do you fuck up an old game?
No individual original version? I'll wait for the Vita version...

it does not really look handpainted like some before already mentioned.
it looks like illustrator is used to do the graphic job.

plus that open gl stuff again, i have old gpu so when i see open gl must be this and that i google.

when i googled on OpenGL 3 with GLSL version 1.3

first result google gave me was:
problems with double fine games

please check the attachment
its a screenshot i made from the first search results

a fine is besides the meaning of nice, also a form of payment you have to make when you did some naughty stuff:

fine = boete in dutch language

so a company calling itself Double Fine is quite funny to read.
below the word fine there were also others:

penalty
penitence
atonement
expiation
forfeit
amercement
sconce

all negative words :D

If the old game can be released 100% bugfree on scumm engine (like zak mckrakken), then i buy it.
i do like games but no bugs unles the bugss are being played in the game to do something, i read the double fine dudes have bugs.

at 3 you ask : .... how do you fuck up an old game?

answer might be: give it to: " fill in name of the devs who made/remastered a classic game "

it is something-something $3 million and counting for a game he split in half.
it is something-something spacebase df-9.
it is something-something him setting up fig and telling people he wants $2 million for a second psychonauts.

i could go on, but i imagine you get the picture.

Konami had an excuse, they just lost their source code for Silent Hill 2 and used a Beta Code.

I don't know if they had a Source Code for Grim Fandango.

I remember hearing this before, but you'd imagine it's the kind of thing a company would back up as a matter of course, especially since it's not like they've gone out of business.

DOS version? ScummVM is all the remaster I desire, honestly.
I never played Day of the Tentacle growing up, but I'm glad it's here, because everywhere I see it mentioned it's referred to as a masterpiece. It's great that another good old game gets to be preserved by GOG. One of these days I'm certain I'll find the time to also experience it.

lost source code? thats a good one , i never heard that one before...
how can someone loose the sourcecode ?

ahwell, it sounds ridiculous, devs/companies loosing source codes?

anyway, i wont spend a dime on these guys, unless the game will be on supersale in 3 years for 1 euro :D

reminds me , i saw a very decent game, 9.99 euros on steam, now on sale at 2 euros, it looked good, so i got it:
Lost Chronicles of Zerzura
thats a really nice game, walkthru are on youtube 34 or 36 parts so it seems quite large
4.2 GB in size, 2 gb movies, .bik (sounds like bik or bink (old video codec)
The best part is: once i bought it, downloaded it on my old win xp, i was able to run the game on my win7 without the client needed, so i am a happy camper now.

If Lost Chronicles of Zerzura could come here at gog i would even buy it at the 9.99 euro retail price
but games like these seem to be underdogs and arent likely to arrive.
I am also still hoping the secretfiles franchise pack (or all games a single games (9.99 a piece)
will arrive here someday at gog.
The old lost horizon is also a nice game at 9.99.

Shadows on the vatican is a simple game 6 euros per chapter and 4 chapters are promised to be made, i already got the first one at sales 89 cents because chap 2 was released at 5.99
The game has some average animated characters but the art and backdrops are pretty, and at 5.99 a chapter its a nice deal. And these games also run without steam needed once installed.
I am waiting for chap 3 and 4, assuming they wont make it run only using the client cause then i wont be getting chap 3 and 4.
Instabought!

Day of the Tentacle is, in my opinion, the best classic point & click adventure ever, and it's nice that Double Fine decided to remake it and bring it back for a whole new generation of gamers to enjoy.

I could do without the ridiculous OpenGL requirements (not as bad as Grim Fandango Remastered, though), but I guess that's the price you pay for having these games being exact tech copies of the PS4/Vita versions, which use that latest OpenGL thing that older GPUs on PCs still lack -- my laptop runs The Witcher 2 on Medium but can't run Grim Fandango Remastered at all just because of that OpenGL requirement thing. Hopefully, this time around, being OpenGL 3 and not 3.3, more old GPUs will support it.

I'm really happy Day of the Tentacle is coming to GOG, with an exclusive pre-order, even; this one and Enter the Gungeon are the only games I'm interested in, after having pre-ordered No Man's Sky, so, bring it on, GOG! :P

javihyuga: DOS version? ScummVM is all the remaster I desire, honestly.
In this case, a DOSbox release would be more preferable, because ScummVM doesn't have the ability to start Maniac Mansion withing Day of the Tentacle yet.

Honestly, I don't understand why they never bother to release the untouched, emulated versions alongside the remastered ones. Only because the original graphics are included with the remaster?
I mean, every shitty indie game now gets at least three different entries in the shop, but we can't have a "remastered" as well as a "classic" version of one of the greatest games of all time for sale?
