The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.
There should be a way to rebind the grappling hook controls to the mouse wheel. The game doesn't seem to recognize this at all.

Huh check your drivers and/or control settings in game. Mine was able to do exactly this. Without remapping even.

Interesting game with some nice ideas. Not sure I'm feeling exactly how it plays though. Might put in some more time later.
I just remembered I purchased a Frozenbyte Humble Bundle on April 13, 2011. It included a pre-order for Splot on PC. It's nearly 5 years later, and all that is there is a beta for Splot. What happened to the full release?

IronArcturus: Is this the first time GOG has posted a demo game?
Not quite the same thing, but https://www.gog.com/game/spelunky used to have a public link to the original/free version (hosted by GOG). https://www.gog.com/news/coming_soon_spelunky mentions it.
I had to do a literal screenshot, taken with my phone, because the game isn't captured in screenshots when it's running full screen. Hope that's ok.

The game seems really cool so far. It's a very interesting approach to a stealth game. The ability to rewind time and the fact that time stands still when you stand still allows for very tricky plans to come together perfectly. Also, grappling hooks are awesome.

I checked in the Options and it has mappings to "Mouse Button 6 and 7" and that was why the controls weren't working. Not everyone has a 7 button mouse! :P But it's disappointing that the demo doesn't save the controls for some reason.
demo is also on steam or humble bundle (if you prefer to just download from a link go with humble bundle, if you want to have in your account get the gog version, if you want to play it on steam just download there).

I think it's a great idea (I'm just downloading it on gog).
first thing i did was rebind WASD to ESDF. not work. next game.
So I got to beat it without being detected, but how can I increase the score... hmm

DProject: Tried the demo, I think it was a horrendous idea having time move only when you move. To combat that, I had to constantly be pushing Ctrl (crouch) or Q (or move, naturally). Didn't like it. I prefer my stealth games without such gimmicks. And what is this shit about having to babysit some girl? Wouldn't it be more fun if all you had to do was to get to the exit yourself without being seen? Now I have to clear a path for this AI who doesn't have a grappling hook, doesn't know how to jump, and does her pathfinding seemingly randomly.

I might try to do a no-kill run tomorrow but at the moment I cannot see how it's possible with such bonehead AI and gimmicky controls.
I didn't notice any problems with the AI. Were you guiding her (there's a control for it) or just letting her move on her own?

As for time stopping when you're not moving, personally I like that feature a lot. For those that don't, check out the keybindings menu. There's a control you can bind in there to toggle the time stopping feature, so you can play without time ever stopping if you want to.

You can get the time flowing all the time if you go into Settings - Control binds - Toggle time (and set a key for it).

Can the score be increased to above 1100? I mean is killing all guards going to ever rack up more than 1100 points?

Will there be a future Windows build to allow the player to save their key binds? For some reason the demo doesn't allow this.

I plan to try Shadwen tonight. I've been a fan of Frozenbyte for a long time. Having said that, what about Splot?
Wow this game has a lot of things I love in a game. Third person, stealth action similar to Styxx Master of Shadows and Splinter Cell but with a time manipulation mechanic which adds a huge level of strategy and a physics based rope tool!

So far I'm interested very much in what I'm seeing but I'm having a heck of a time with the controls. I'm starting to get used to the paused/real-time motion of play but my problem is I can not map all of the keybinds I would like but most of them work for some reason. The most important one does not though. I play on the arrow side of the keyboard and everything maps except the forward button which obviously makes it unplayable. Left, Right, Back all work but even though it recognized Up in the keybind, in-game it doesn't work. I started playing with a controller instead and that helped but I can't remap anything when using a controller. For instance as its unused except as a "back" button for menus, when it prompts me to press a button for what I'm trying to map and lets say I press B, it won't take. It just backs out. I haven't been able to map things successfully for keyboard or controller.
