The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.

XYCat: it's kind of a weird thing. I used it in such a way that I shot the hook someplace, then I jumped and shot it there in mid air. That way you can jump up to wherever you can shoot your hook. You can also swing on it from place to place.
Also you need to press it only once and it's hooked until you press the attack button. And for pulling objects you just shoot it at a box or something and then move the character around.

IronArcturus: I wish the grappling hook was more intuitive like in Just Cause 2. One didn't need to "search" for a place to grapple, since the hook worked everywhere in the environment. :P
The hook is weird but what left me a bit confused is guiding that little girl. I have no idea how it works or how to tell if it worked or if she moved on her own like she does when the road is obviously clear. A little sound indicator would be nice.

LiefLayer: I can only say I really like it. it's a really good stealth game (you can actually get a no detection... only 5 people get it on site if you take a look), it's challenging but it's not impossible (but you can improve what you want).
It run really well on my system (macbook pro retina 15'' 2012 650M).

There are only few things I don't really understand... how to kill a "Knight guard"... and if there is a way to move a body if you kill a guard.

Anyway have a whole level in a demo is really the best thing they can do.... Now I am absolutely certain that I will buy the game (perhaps even the day it come out, which I never do).
3 ways to kill a knight guard in the demo I know of.

1. pull boxes so it falls on a guard with the grappling hook. (i noticed at one point i was better off aiming at the middle than top block. this can be really finicky.

2. two of the trap items you use can kill them.

Many times the girl would just walk right in front of a guard, and for some reason the guard never sees her. Is she supposed to be a ghost or something?

there is a counter for guard alert... I think the goal of this demo is to finish it in 3 way:
1. no kill
2. full kill
3. no detection

the girl is not invisible, but the guard cannot kill her and end the game...

but this is just a demo (a good one but still a demo), i think the full game will change something.

Well played, GOG, I have already installed it, will try to play it through when I will have a bit more time ;), otherwise I am really glad Shadwen is coming to GOG.

(I haven´t played Trine 3, but some people were complaining that it´s quite short compared to the other parts of the series. I am just wondering whether developers didn´t have to cut out some content because of the money restraints.)

Be it as it may, hopefully Shadwen will win people´s hearts - by sneaking behind them.
(My inner Garret is quietly leaping from joy) :D
8GB free on my HDD and the game refuses to install saying the disk is out of space so no soup for me.
Linux Mint for me and sometimes the game decides to quit using the correct mouse coordinates and instead uses the desktop mouse coordinates, which then greatly limits my ability to move the camera. So far a fun game though!
Downloading the Linux version now. Kudos to Frozenbyte for restoring the old practice of releasing demos :) It's almost unheard of these days.

Along with earlier mentioned techniques, you can kill a Knight guard by doing an air attack. I didn't even realize you could box or trap them in earlier playthroughs.

I'll probably check out the demo, but I'm not too concerned about entering the contest. GOG doesn't have the greatest reputation when it comes to actually giving out the prizes.
Is it actually possible to perfect ghost this? I get the girl almost to the end flawlessly, except the one guard refuses to turn (I think I saw him do it once, for all of about 3 seconds), making it impossible for her to get past :\
Played through it once... and that'll be probably it for me. I guess it's just not my thing. *shrug* It would be nice to have faster rewind options though because currently it's yawn-inducing.

I was able to get her to move where I had the crosshair/cursor on screen by pressing y/triangle on a controller. I don't know what the keyboard command would be though.
Pausing the game gives the keyboard commands list. I can't remember what the key is off the top of my head.
