I still have Get Windows 10 icon in the Icons bar, but that was when I got this initially when this all started last year.

I still have not updated my PC in a LONG LONG time. I have accumalated many updates since.

So question. The Get Windows 10 icon is the KB 3035583? What happens when I uninstall it? Does my PC reset?
I speaks volumes for the quality of a product when it must be forced on people like this. Maybe now people will quit laughing at me for still using Vista!
I hadn't even noticed.
Fiendishly clever!

hahaha! VISTA! not a chance! (just having fun with you!)

I had the win10 thing there briefly but I removed it, somehow. Manual updates only, ever.
You only need to worry about this if you're on automatic updates. Just leave them shut off and update manually.

All it speaks to is what MS has planned for the future, that is, continuous forced updates to keep the unwashed masses from being the massive security flaw that they have been since the advent of the PC. Those of us who are already pretty security conscious might not like it, but if it works, it might actually end up better for all of us in the long run.

And no, we will always laugh at anyone who willingly chooses to continue using Vista.

But I still have that Get Windows 10 Icon

If I uninstall it, do I restart?
Yeah if you uninstall that KB and restart it should be gone if memory serves.

Okay, first of all, read this.

Yes, when you remove the update, your computer will restart. Just make sure when you start to install your backlog of updates to not include the windows 10 update.
And also change your updates process as Microsoft have made Windows 10 a recommended update so you could accidently update your PC if you choose the "include recommended updates" option.

Be warned, when I updated and had a huge backlog, it took quite a few hours to churn through all of it, with multiple restarts. Make sure you've got the time. :(

Yes, restart.

Then run Windows Update and set it to Manual. Check for updates. Open the list of updates. Look for the offending update, KB 3035583, and select it. From there you can tell Win Update to never install that one.

And yes, they'll do it again, next time using a different KB number. It'll be the same installer as before but with a new number Win Update won't block it. Rinse, Repeat. Of course, now that you have updates set to Manual, it won't automatically install; instead, you'll have to look up what each update does - because the Win10 installer is given a generic description that only says it's important - before installing any of them.

Or just leave it on Auto and remove it next time they rename it.

Well I have done it and the Windows 10 Icon is gone.

Remember I had it since this whole thing began last year so I have not be subject to those pop up screens.

But I am not gonna update my PC at all.

I have not for long time now and so far nothing bad happened to my PC.

And I have been told that nothing bad really happens if you don't update. So long as you just keep to the safe parts of the internet.

The problem is that due to ad networks and Javascript, there aren't really any safe parts of the Internet any more. It used to be that avoiding malware was a matter of avoiding sketchy sites. But with the current ad networks, any ad can be a Flash ad or have Javascript that loads malicious payloads even on perfectly respectable sites.

UBlock for ads + NoScript can do a lot...but take work to finetune so all comments are blocked, for example.

Updating is definitely better than not updating. Run this script on your PC to remove the W10 upgrade stuff and then apply the Windows updates: https://voat.co/v/technology/comments/853510
LOL figures.

Reinforces that I cannot trust MS any longer. They jumper off the Trust Train a long time ago.

If I put my tinfoil hat on - it was all part of the evil plan. Which = Can't trust

If I take off the tinfoil hat - maybe it was all a mistake (AGAIN). Which = Can't trust.

No matter how I look at their antics, or the possible reasons, and (as some will claim), benevolence, it all adds up to CANNOT TRUST THEM.

I've been running Windows 10 since it first came out, and I must say that it is a great operating system.

The only issues we run into are due to the automatic updates that Microsoft forces on us. Every single time our system gets an update we just go back into the settings and uninstall whatever malware or spyware Windows installed on our system. I'm starting to think Microsoft doesn't actually test their upgrades. Nearly every upgrade has resulted in some kind of problem.

That being said, the system itself is stylish, easy to use and very customizable.

Get GWX control panel and get rid of the nuisance. It does not require installation, and you can also make the program monitor your system to prevent accidental upgrading, etc. in the future.
