SLP2000: Supporting devs also isn't something that bothers most people - if that was true, we would not see indie games on Steam/GOG, devs wouldn't need that.
Actually, even with the 30% that Steam takes, devs are better of using that service. Doing all the logistics and financial stuff to do yourself is a huge amount of work. The bank fees alone are a huge factor. Not to mention bandwith, etc. Currently, the best we have is the Humble "Store". And a lot of people are buying there to support the devs.

Unless you already have a big infrastructure standing, distributing a game without help is costing you in the end.

So long as they don't involve all people who cannot into designing games, sure. Pretty sure a few were let off after New Vegas too.

My only worry is, I have absolutely no idea what kind of track record Adam Brennecke holds, other than NV and KOTOR2. Guy could be a dark horse or a train wreck waiting to happen.
Just ~500 spaces left at the early bird $20 tier. Get it while it's hot.

But that's just off topic. I was only saying that I don't see many people buying directly on the developers websites to support devs - most use Steam, GOG, GG or even Humble Store. And that's a fact, otherwise devs would not use DD stores to sell their games.

And this means that even if some people bought TW2 here to support CDPRED, it was very small group.

If I am in 20$ tier and I decide to change my pledge later, does it free up one slot in that tier?

What was Wolfram's problem?

Well.. Sure enough to put up 20 bucks. Why not? These guys made Icewind Dale 1+2, Fallout 1+2... how much more do you need?

She worked on one of the few areas that I thought broke the otherwise excellent design of the game. IIRC it is one of the more awful vaults in the game. (edit: found it! It's Vault 19)

They also better keep whoever wrote The Thorn out of Project Eternity.

(edited 7 months later just for shits and giggles after realising I'd spelled "Eternity" as "Entity")

And this is without including marketing costs. Steam is pretty much "THE" online store for many and honestly if you land your game there you've pretty much just sent an advertisement of your product (your steam page on the "new games list) to a vast majority of the PC gaming market.
Advertising like that normally would cost you a hefty amount and yet if you land on steam you've got it, plus its a distribution site so it not only advertises but makes you money as well.

I suspect even just getting on Steam Green Light now gets you a massive increase in exposure online.

If you're going it alone and you don't invest in marketing - eh - you've all seen those sites. Good games, often some really interesting titles, but with no marketing you're basically unable to really connect with a larger market. You might get lucky and have one of the big independent bloggers or youtube "lets play" or reviewers pick up your title- but that isn't much you can build a company around.

I imagine it would, so if you wanted to increase your pledge later you should be 100% sure that's what you want to do.

If you change your pledge on the KS page it should release previously occupied slots for limited release options. However remember that if you change your options after the final whistle is blown and you're filling in the forms after (or using a manager to add additional funds) then it won't release slots up (but of course by that stage no one new will be able to take part of course so it won't matter).

Now I've got to decide - pledge at $20 or Torchlight II

I was into water before it was cool. Now that it sold out, I don't really care anymore.

Well if you back this you won't have to play anything so you will have lower electricity bill. If you buy Torchlight you will have to play it and your electricity bill will go up. ;-)
