htown1980: Steam only? Insta-pass for me. People need to send a message to devs that that ain't cool. Also, why not work out how much $$ you need for Linux and Mac support at the start?
No high on their list? ;)

Me too.
Already pledged.

Edit: regarding the Steam problem, the FAQ says:
How will I get my digital copy of the game?

We are still exploring the idea of offering number of options, but one of those is definitely going to be Steam.

And MAC/Linux:
What about other platforms?

We are looking into other platforms (Linux, Mac, etc.). Please stay tuned for more information!

Instaback moment for me.

I see some complaints and here's how I feel about this: Primary reason for backing is that I want to see a game made. I know these guys' history and I like their work. These people have been a big part of some of my favorite games. I'm immediately willing to pledge $50. I also like that I can order a decent boxed copy. This combined with the fact that I want to help this game exist means I am willing to pledge at least $100 (and I found out with Wasteland 2 that I do actually care about name in credits for things that inspire me). I like game books too so now I'm contemplating $250 for that extra book.

Consumers get to vote for what they want and producers get to minimize risk and their fucked-up shenanigans for cost recovery because they already have the funds they need if they reach their goal.

Now, the main thing I dislike is that Steam is mentioned and it's not clear if there will be an alternative. I can see their reason for wanting a digital distribution system, but isn't the disc in the boxed version a form of distribution? They're distributing the game to me with that box and shipping, correct? I sure as hell am not going to pledge $140 for a collector's edition boxed version that has DRM with it! Distribution method can't be an excuse for that.

Another thing that bothers me a little bit is the long wait for these games to be made. What if all my information gets screwed up in that time or Kickstarter ceases to exist? This is secondary stuff though. Primary is that I helped fund a game I want to see made. If my information is lost, it's not that much of a concern with video games because I could download it and know that I helped make this game exist.

I think this is a good thing about Kickstarter. Many people love Obsidian and their work, but it's not just about them. It's about us too. Like this article writes about, fans feel involved and they feel like we did it. We are part of the project. This success is partly our success too. This is bigger than looking at it as just a purchase for me.

Coelocanth: Yep. It's just sounding better and better.
Oh fuck yes, I have always like the way Baldur's Gate and PlaneScape :Torment handled voice overs, enough to give you a sense of what the character sounds like without limiting your options.
Over 600K now. This has to be a kickstart record, correct me if i am wrong.
Yeah, it's a new record.

However, this makes me think whether they have some sort of account verifications/check for the people backing the highest tiers? It's been a known problem before that some payments may bounce back, so I really wonder if just about anyone can pledge 10k atm. I sure would if I could afford it...
Backed my first Kickstarter! I'm pretty confident that they will offer something other than Steam, but if not I will most likely pull my pledge.

Chris Avellone also tweeted at me, in a tweet where I expressed a want for a DRM-free version, so that was pretty awesome. He didn't address the want, but he thanked me for backing and supporting.
I would be all over this if, except I have no way of knowing if my comp will be able to run the final product.

sucks but there's nothing I can do about it I guess :(

Back them at the physical copy tier ($65 + postage). IMHO this is sounding like one of the first games in a long time that is actually worth the full price.

Hmm lowest tier is $20. Should be no reason why Gog cant come to an agreement (early on to prevent Steam from haven't a pos exclusive) to have the game available here.
I just signed up for the $35 dollar tier. Definitely wanted to get my hands on the soundtrack and those extra art materials. Couldn't afford to go higher for the physical products, but the classic music from the old IE games was so good, I couldn't pass up a chance for more of the same. Also, this is my first Kickstarter, and there is literally no way that I can think of a more exciting project.

Yeah, I'll probably upgrade eventually. I like to get my grubby mitts on OSTs (big reason why I like GOG), and the other extra stuff sounds nice as well.

Totally agree. I swear I've spent more time listening to Humble Bundle game soundtracks than I have playing the games. Especially Bastion and Sword and Sworcery. Those are incredible.
