Wholeheartedly disagree with the OP.
The ease of first glance access to information took a big hit with this update. They spaced out and enlarged the insignificant things like the goodies list or the banner at the top, and removed the important ones like the embedded screenshot preview. The fleshed out review system and the comparison view are about the only good things I can mention in this update's favor, the rest of the changes are all negative.
Some observations:
- The removal of the embedded screenshot preview above the thumbnails is a really bad decision. It allowed a sufficiently detailed view of the images without having to disrupt the page with popups and extra clicking-loading.
- Removing the formatting (paragraphs) from reviews is a big step backwards, nobody likes reading walls of text.
- Honestly guys, people have been asking for direct links to the games' forums for years, how many site redesigns will it take to implement that? It's the single most useful button on Steam's game pages.
- It takes too much scrolling to get to the reviews now, due to the following:
--- The banner at the top (with the game's picture) is too big.
--- The lists of Goodies and DLCs can become way too long on titles which have a lot of them (e.g. Witcher 3 GOTY, Paradox games, etc).
--- The system requirements section takes up a bit too much space, especially on a site selling so many old games where this is a non-issue.
With the previous version, I didn't feel the need to write custom css to de-bloat GOG, like I have to do with Steam, but the way things look now, I won't be spared that work if I want a compact, convenient experience back.
