adamhm: And I bet it'll be infected with Denuvo just like Doom
Doom 2016 has Denuvo? Well, so much for me getting the Steam version.

tinyE: Quake 4 is the perfect FPS. If they make another one they can only go downhill.
Quake 4 is damn good, but the new Doom is decidedly better. There's room for improvement in both games.

Whatever the case, we'll probably have to wait another 5 or so years before we actually get to see anything if id's usual release schedule is anything to go by.

tinyE: Does the U.K. have quakes? There must be a fault around there somewhere. If I had them in Missouri you have to have them.
The last one was terrible. I've attached a picture of the damage. Not for the faint of heart.

If you were getting it on Steam anyway then what difference does Denuvo make?

I don't mind Steam Client drm so much, it's just third-party drm that makes me more squeamish. Guess i'm still cautious after hearing horror stories about SecuROM and such.

I'm always happy when someone else likes Q4.

Can't say i've ever played Quake 4, but I do like me some RavenSoft.

All Denuvo does is bind you to a client you're already bound to anyway. No rootkits, install limits and the like. I haven't heard any genuine criticism of it and I was pretty concerned about it myself when it first appeared.

That's it? It doesn't try and lock down stuff on your PC or anything? Well that doesn't sound bad I guess.

It's great fun, my biggest criticism is some of the weapons don't feel quite as heavy as they should.

Actually It does appear to do a bit more than that, even phoning home to its own servers to authenticate on first run (or if you change hardware):

(plus the fact it's from the same people that made SecuROM is enough for me to never, ever trust or accept it no matter what - I don't want any of my money going to them... also due to the way it works anything that uses Denuvo will never be able to run on Linux via Wine, so that's another reason for me personally to avoid it)

Nope. Linear and rather generic level design with some extremely off putting and bad vehicle sections. It's an okay game, but nowhere near a perfect FPS.

I lost 3 hard drives and 2 cdroms to SecuRom 7. On top of that I had to reinstall everything from scratch, at the time a 12 hour install, 3 different times. If it has SR on it, I don't buy it at all. No way I am letting that on my system ever again.

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff i've heard about it.

Azhdar: Good news, and I think it may be "Quake" or "QUAKE" instead of Quake 5/V.
I wonder if the new Quake will be styled like the first Quake or more like the rest of the Quake series?

SpellSword: . . . the story of Quake II has nothing to do with the original Quake. This is mostly because Quake II was originally intended to be a separate franchise (Quake II was initially only a tentative title), a plan that was thwarted when most of the other names id Software had tried to use were already taken.
