MaxFulvus: LOL ! An other non gory horror film is The Human Centipede ! I found it more funny than scary, probably because I think it is too grotesque.

tinyE: You know I mentioned loving that movie right when this thread began and have gotten nothing but shit for it; THANK YOU MAX for letting me know I'm not out there totally alone on this one! :D
And you whine?!?!
What do you leave then for the last one in the centipede chain, she got two times more ;P

I loved The Human Centipede. I looked at it as some black humour. I loved the doctor character.

MaxFulvus: Pet Sematary (Stephen King) is also one of my favorite horror film. Not a true horror film, but more focused on what you are ready to do to bring a beloved person back to life. Avoid MicMac indians cemetery !
I totally agree! Its sequel, however, was a real joke compared to the original!
Ok, I just saw A Serbian film and I'm really disappointed. It's just a crappy snuff movie with the catalog of all the dark sides of human beings without a captivating story. You watch the film just for waiting the schocking parts. No true message, IMO.
The first DVD (Birdy) of my shopping frenzy arrived today in the office. :)
I'm not a fan of horror films at all, and others love it.

Closest thing to horror I can think of is:
Evil Dead 1
Evil Dead 2
Evil Dead (2013 remake)
Dead Alive (if I'm recalling the movie right, lots of gross parts)

The only things I can think of that is close to horror, that has good quality production, is:
The Walking Dead tv series, not very horror'ish, but zombies fit the bill.

And again not really horror'ish, here goes a few horror:comedie mix ups:
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
Shaun of the Dead
Evil Dead Army of Darkness

I like that TV series very much. i wonder how many more seasons they will make ?
There's a Japanese manga name " i am a hero". i think it is alike to the Walking Dead.
This, somewhere past 30 minutes or so.

I hope you didn't take that personally though. I just needed someone to blame besides myself - in truth, I could have turned it off as soon as I realized that it would be exactly like that one South Park episode. :p

XD In this forum I don't take anything personally. I hate to get emotional here but it's gotten to the point with you folks that I can exchange jabs an insults with you folks without any hurt feelings because we're all friends.
Father's Day - Seriously, give it a try.
Always room for addition.
Without going to the most obvious choices like Alien/Aliens, The Thing (80's version) etc. here are some random favorites:

Steven King's It
The Machinist
30 Days of Night
28 Days Later
The Cube
The People Under the Stairs
Seconds
Mama

You can see the 3min short that Mama was remade from here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD9AZF8aJvQ

I think it's important to distinguish horror films from the rise of torture porn. Horror films are about fear. Fear that can only be created if the audience is invested in things like character and story. Torture porn is about sadism and revulsion. They don't require character or story simply brutal violence to produce disgust. The audience's participation in these kinds of movies is reduced to lowest common denominator guttural reaction.

I'm not a fan of modern horror films, but I have to recommend The Babadook. One of the best horror films I have seen in years.
I'd recommend these Movies...
Evidence
The Mist
Tusk
