SirPrimalform: Hahaha, I just got a hilarious "evil genius" PM from Anasto.
Sounds like a teenager who thinks they're being smarter than they actually are.

Very stupid.

PenutBrittle: Random conspiracy time.

Anyone kind of... bothered by the number of "Thank you GOG!" posts that have cropped up lately? It wasn't uncommon before, but there's a significantly higher number of them since this scammer business started. It's such an easy way to bait +1s that I can't help but be suspicious about it.
I noticed this too and I find it strange. And like you said, it is an easy way to get rep.

Well, remember that we're fresh out of a GOG public announcement of expansion that brought a whole lot of new users to the forum, made up largely of a segment that hadn't even heard of GOG before, let alone what it's known for. If however, this had happened midyear, without any major public announcements from GOG, I'd agree that it'd be mighty suspicious.

PenutBrittle: But more on topic, this isn't the ideal space to trade anyway. It's a site about GOG, not a site about ferocious bartering. GOG staff do not and should not have to do anything about this. Trade elsewhere. Do rep requirements for giveaways. Done.

Endless debates about moderation and police states is just feeding into it. Obviously this guy is on an insane messed up power trip, it's just kind of sad.
To be fair to the others here though, this isn't necessarily a power trip; it's about people who legitimately want to protect themselves and others on the forum from greedy dishonesty. I know I'd be absolutely furious if the person who received my rare Korean copy of System Shock 2 in a giveaway I did a year ago entered just so he could turn around and eBay it for profit. We're ultimately here to share our love of games and let others enjoy them as much as we do – we're not here to be a free game service for freeloaders who don't have the maturity or capacity to think of anyone outside of themselves.
I still wish GOG would flag people who have multiple accounts somehow. Just... you know. Simple stuff every other forum software has.

Hawk52: People suck sometimes. It's really a shame to see people trying to screw over others in such a good community as this one. Maybe giveaways should be curtailed for awhile? Maybe if we tone it down, the scammers will move on to other places for more attractive targets?
We just have to make some rules like setting up a minimum rep or join date to take part in giveaways. And only give codes by PM. Codes for free games posted everywhere on this forum are attracting too many scammers.

Damuna: Since he still hasn't gone away, rooshandark8. No doubt he'll start bleating about being innocent. As a recap: Solicits free games and money, trolls giveaways, trades the codes he gets, traded the same HIB code to multiple people...oh, and ruins P&P sessions. :P
Hmmmm, i know one guy like this. And he has quite a big rep, actually.
avatar
Roman5: This is why we are advising many people either do competitions or the very least, post codes in pictures or puzzles when they do ninja-giveaways to combat scripts
Let this be a lesson to scammers.

langurmonkey: I don't feel entitled to anyone's games. I just think it is unfair to not include GOG members because they haven't put in 4 months time into the community. It is basically saying fuck you to the new members. And why? Because of ONE guy who is a douchebag scamming people?
It was NOT just one guy. Just take a look at a few giveaway threads, there are plenty of users with no rep at all just trying to get free games. It's obvious that they registered just to abuse this community's generosity.

langurmonkey: Safety measure at the expense of others. A bunch of people being punished due to one man.
How are you being punished? It's a fucking giveaway, it's an act of generosity. Deal with it. No one here needs to make giveaways for you.

What? No way. GOG are the champions and nothing will ever bring this site and community down.

Before you post, you should do some reading. Nowhere did I say, people need to make giveaways for me. This whole thing is clearly beyond your understanding. AND I already said in a previous post in this thread that "punished' was the wrong word to use. And this heated discussion died off many many hours ago after I responded to a bunch of people who shared with me thoughts very similar to yours. You starting it up again serves no purpose and is flame bait. This will be the last time, I respond to people like you in this thread.

Sure enough, there's no point starting it again.
Just as a word of warning, there's a scammer called Big__McLargeHuge on the loose - note the two underscores. He's spoofing Big_McLargeHuge, an established user, including using his avatar, and it would be quite easy to miss it. I'm passing this on to TheEnigmaticT and Judas, but in the meantime I wanted to warn you guys.

EDIT: Picture comparison.

Did a trade with this guy earlier, gave my MacGuffin's Curse key for his Post Mortem key - haven't heard from him since.
Say, as I don't trade, I'm not following this attentively, or caring immensely, so, i certainly missed something mmensely obvious, but... i didn't get how a general politeness rule of "lowest rep gives key first" can't solve most of the issues ?

Good catch...this bullshit is ridiculous.

the best and easiest solution seen in this thread.
