UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

Djaron: Thank you, really, greatly... thank you

you are just the perfect example of what i tried to warn folks against regarding this new screwup from GOG and you are a living advertizing for why we need damn privacy !

tinyE: These new screwups are really ruining it for all the old screwups like me.
yeah i know... quite unfair competition indeed.

i empathize sincerely :)

Why? We just have to change stuff for sake of change?

edit :

* laughs * Steamtards wanted this feature , now they are happy .

And every profile i checked was set to private . :p
paaah... that's because you only insisted on checking profiles from people of the "oversensitive" (aka: bitchy whiny) minority, of course :)

oh wait...
The profiles look great, easy to use but would love to see some more customization options and to actually preview the profile. I don't like how GOG have handled the privacy issue, I get that profiles are enabled by default but don't change privacy settings for existing users without approval.

It would have been nice if this new profile feature would have been a beta before going live, that way people know what's coming and make suggestions during development. Other than that I don't mind it, just allow us to customize and disable it. If Galaxy can be optional so can profiles.

Is there any way for a person to turn profiles off entirely or just outright kill them?

I don't have a FB account or any other social media crap and I don't want one here either - though I doubt I will be able to eliminate this "feature" I neither wanted nor asked for - ever. All I wanted was a place to buy DRM-free games and occasionally hit up the forum.

Also, trophies/achievements/medals are all stupid, any way to kill them from the profile and same with the time tacking? I don't use Galaxy (another garbage program) and if I did in the future - I certainly don't want to be tracked and have data posted everywhere. If I want to know what games other people are playing I can ask in the forum (topics already exists).

Maybe GOG can go back to this old thread and remember its roots.

Perhaps GOG can actually get to work on the problems people actually want solved like MAKING OFFLINE INSTALLERS THE DEFAULT in the download page and stop mucking everything up with garbage.

The_SoV: Looks awesome! I really like the way they designed customization of profile. Good looking backgrounds(free posters from games you own) that blurs when you scroll down. In some ways this design is better than in steam, where statistics crossed background picture in the middle, what looked bad with some pictures.
well, on steam you have to BUY the background theme for personalizing your profile (yeah, even when you own the game.. well in fact, owning the game may grant you 3 or 4 of the whatever number of trading cards required to complete the game badge that will grand you said profile background... and usually trading/getting other missing cards aint free)

at least (for now) GOG gives out stuff we already bought

also @carbondevice
well, even with everything on "only me" and "now hidden", i still have some info displayed on the profile

in fact i'd rather have the whole url blablablagog/u/username to answer a 404 error or a blank page or a whole page saying "nope, it's private, begone !"
would it be so hard to completely disable that ?
Don't want to suggest they've bodged up the profiles already, but...

There are 2 major problems I can see here:
1. My How To Update Factorio Guide has merged with my review of Jalopy.
2. The links don't work

Can we get this fixed sooner rather than sooner™?

If you're going to implement profiles, at least have them functioning.

Jeysie: And I also remember having the same frustration when I signed up for ITAD, which combined with GOG now doing their own email notifications for your wishlist now is part of why I eventually deleted my account at ITAD.
I set up automatic wishlist sync and disabled GOG's e-mails because ITAD lets me specify "Don't e-mail me unless it's at least 50% off and no more than $5" while GOG doesn't.

What irritates me is that GoG says I have 4 games that can be updated, but when I click on it I wind up at the useless profile page instead of my library.

That said I thought my library page was actually gone along with all my tags, so I am less salty about this than I was when I first logged in.

And yeah, I'm still pissed this has been public information for at least six hours before I was able to set everything to private.

Just because you never asked for it doesn't mean people didn't ask for it. It was a pretty high requested feature on the wishlist.
