Excellent hand-picked games, 14-day refund policy, always DRM-free.

We want GOG.com to be the home of games that are both excellent and really worth your time.
In today's gaming world, we're seeing more and more titles that become hits before development dwindles down. We want to give you a way to enjoy what these games have to offer, a way that's comfortable and fair to you — the GOG.com way: that means evaluating each and every game, a 14-day no-questions-asked refund policy, and more.

That's why today, we're introducing the first five games in development:
Starbound (-33%)
Ashes of the Singularity (-25%)
Project Zomboid (-40%)
TerraTech (-30%)
The Curious Expedition (-15%)

The GOG.com way.
First and foremost: we're hand-picking only the games we can truly stand behind. Offering a selection of the most promising titles, and those most highly requested on the Community Wishlist, is our way of avoiding bloat and ensuring that every game will be worth your time.

It takes some confidence to discover games that are still being shaped — and to build that trust, every game in development comes with a simple refund policy: 14 days, no questions asked. It doesn't matter if you're having technical issues, if you don't think the game is sufficiently fleshed out, or if it simply doesn't click with you — all games in development can be returned for any reason within 14 days of purchase.

The GOG Galaxy client should also come in handy for games in development. It lets you control updates manually if you want, while the rollback feature allows you to easily restore any earlier version of your game if an update breaks something or makes unwanted changes. For games in development, rollback will also track and create historical snapshots throughout a game's development. That means you can always revisit any point in a game's history — for fun, or for science.

It's your call.
For those of you who prefer to wait for the final release, nothing will change. Once a game leaves active development, we will be making the announcement and giving the newest release proper exposure. Basically, business as usual.

More info.
Surely you have questions. You'll find many of the answers in the <span class="bold">games in development FAQ, including more details on the new refund policy. Our User Agreement has also been expanded to accommodate games in development — check out sections 6.12, 6.13, and 6.14 to find all the new information.

Enjoy your time with games in development!

I'm pretty much against paying to beta test.

HOWEVER (and yes I am a raving GoG fan) in this case I do like the move. I don't know how many times I've seen games get late releases here, or have been purchased pre-release.

Hopefully this is a way for GoG to grab some of those sales they were losing. And again (GoG can do little wrong for me perspective) between the return period and the fact that I trust them not to put up vaporware-never-finish garbage I'm hopeful this plays well.

And while it's not a game I was interested in, I'm excited for everyone that saw Ashes disappear from the "Upcoming" list yesterday and thought what I though... "Uh-oh, what happened there?" ;) Answer - it's coming tomorrow! ;)

Impaler26: So GOG is selling early access games now...

Meh, we don't need unfinished games here IMO. Who knows when and if they will ever be completed.
Won't this mean less "I have this on Steam already, so I'll pass!" messages from you? Or don't you ever buy Early Access games from Steam either?

I think this is a classic case of GOG trying too hard to be like Steam. I have to agree with others that this seems to be a very slippery slope when it comes to game quality. How many times has an "early release" game failed to deliver? Why can't GOG just wait until the full release of these games like they did in the past?
HELL YES!!!

That is all I can say to this feature. As always, I just love you guys and I appreciate the great deal of work you put into this.
I'd say: a very good move GOG!
And I am perfectly fine with it as long as I see clearly which game is still in development and which is finished (but this shouldn't be a problem).
I don't think I will be buying anything before it's actually released. I usually play games long after their release, but I think there are many people who will be interested in this and another important thing is: for such games, we will know about their release on GOG in much advance instead of asking questions here (like lately I was asking about Darkest Dungeon. If it had been in early access here then everything would have been obvious).
Don't GoG have a poll and the majority of us voted yes to early access?

Oh, no! Early Access on GOG.. ¬¬

If the devs want to use us as beta testers, THEY have to pay and not us... Or they can release the games for free, for beta testing pùrposes..

What's next? DRM?

I want FULL GAMES!..

FULL LINUX GAMES...
FULL GAMES that have LINUX version on Steam but not here, like both Metro REDUX....

GOG and Deep Silver refuses to explain officially why there is a Linux version on Steam but not on Gog...

And now they want to sell unfinished games??!! ¬¬

pss..

To me this seems like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of situation for GOG. In either case someone will complain about GOG. Earlier it was because "why is GOG releasing this game here which has been on Steam Early Access already for months?". Now they are doing something about that.

I don't see how this affects me, or anyone for that matter, negatively anyway. I am not hot for buying beta games either... so I'll probably skip buying these beta games until they get the proper release. Yet, i am not opposing GOG bringing early games to GOG too, it probably makes sense to them (due to what I wrote above).

And I thought GOG would be a serious company...
This is not a surprise. We've known this was coming since the announcement about Bloodstained.
GoG, you can keep your unfinished games and I keep my money. That sounds fair, neh? :)
so many people here who do not know the difference between being a game tester and buying a game in alpha stages.... The first is a horribly tedious job, the second can be quite fun.

Ragnarblackmane: That was my first reaction, too. Their development team has shown disrespect to players and the gaming community in general. It's a very dubious choice.

haydenaurion: What's the story behind this? Got any links?
As think that they failed to meet deadline promised in their kickstarter. And then another one. Whether it was feature creep or something other... *shrug* Here is their stance on the issue from two years ago.

Now they at least have public roadmap to 1.0. No deadlines, but I think the combat update is already done, or well under way, so I decided to risk it.

Edit: talking about Starbound, for some reason forum doesn't like more than two levels of quotes.

Matruchus: And so early access arrives to gog :) Well, Ashes of Singularity looks definitely a game I would like. Does this work without Galaxy or is it mandatory for gog early access games?
That's my thought, GOG has truly sold out here. PZ is a good game, but what ever happened to waiting for games to be completed before deciding to bring them here? And what happens if the developers half-ass it after they're in? Or the game doesn't turn out as intended?
No Steam to play Early Access Games?
Good News!
Need to buy again Zomboid and Starbound XD

I love those games but i hate Steam.
And my Zomboid from Desura is not updated since...so long.
*poor Desura*
