Crisco1492: I didn't mind when the VN uncensors were free. The last batch with their $5 uncensor... that's just not worth it. In the day of xVideos and PornHub, who needs to pay $5 for still images?
rtcvb32: Like DRM, what's the harm if it doesn't bother you now? It's not like i don't know, businesses go out of business and sooner or later those downloads will end up disappearing leaving you with games that can't be uncensored simply because they can't host the files anymore?
When it takes less than two minutes to bypass the censorship, and the bypass is free, that seems like a reasonable tradeoff compared to requiring credit/ID cards as verification of age before the games are sold. If GOG were forced to region-lock games with adult scenes to comply with local laws (and it's possible; under applicable law here I shouldn't even be able to access the adult VNs and games with nudity here), that would be a much worse situation.
But when companies start charging half the price of the base game, it is a different animal. It's saying, "We are deliberately selling you an incomplete version to earn extra money" rather than "We are selling you an incomplete version, but one that you can complete for free, to protect you and us from legal consequences." The former positions the customer as a patsy; the latter positions the customer as somewhat of an equal.
That's not to say i wouldn't prefer games to be uncensored out of the box, but given the choice between free uncensor packs and paid ones, the choice is clear.
