This thread - or rather: some of its contestants - are the best example, as for why religious zealots are generally disliked.

lubwak: You being afraid to say "Merry Christmas" on Christmas Eve is a new low. It is a VERY specific time, a VERY specific holiday and one YOUR background is built on. Especially given you are from Poland it is outrageous. With uch a lack of self-respect do not expect respect from others, whether they appreciate your culture or not. Nobody respect the weak-willed.

Let's see how reluctant you will be to refer to holidays from other cultures, especially with the new lunar year not far from now. Let's see how consistent you are.

Palestine: By the way, GOG, sincerely, I thank you for the neutral usage of language ("Happy Holidays").

It is more inclusive and far less alienating than some alternatives, as many of us are not currently (nor have we ever) been subscribers to certain systems of belief and their associated customs.

lubwak: What? That is just self-hate for non-existing brownie points. Are you yourself willing to forgo your own beliefs and customs when talking with others just for the sake of "inclusion"? Huh? I do not think you should and neither should GOG go with the Happy Holidays bs. You either have an identity or you don't.
I just want you to remember, what at this timeperiod you say as a polite person to others you meet at the counter of a shop etc. in Poland. Translate it literally into english and you get happpy holidays. So what is all you said above about?

I know usually literal translation is not very good to use. In this case it feels well, although at first glance, maybe not fitting, because usually you hear merry christmas.
holidays come from "holy days", so whoever wants to be offended will be offended anyway. so screw muslims and merry christmas to all! :)
