kaboro: The store that prides itself with selling these old games to keep them alive, should put some effort into making them work on newer systems....least that was my expectation, obviously a wrong expectation as i understand now, but an expectation that makes sense nevertheless.
They do though. Most games here will work under Windows 7 or 8/8.1. And true that Windows 7 might not be new anymore, but compared to the operating system and requirements that alot of these games are designed for it is new. And most of the games here will run fine under 10, GOG just don't solely cater to Windows 10 users.

Out of the 561 games I own for example I think 3 have issues under 10 (one of them was pretty annoying to get running even back in the day.)

A few games will need third party patches, which GOG don't include due to obvious reasons, but they are not tough to find online.

And you mentioned Gothic 1 & 2 in your post specifically. They do run under Windows 10, the videos just have issues. There is a third party patch to fix that but i'll need to look for it and get back to you.
It hasn't been called Good Old Games for years, I wish people would stop repeating an outdated acronym. It's just Gog.

That said they really should have at least tried to come up with a new acronym years ago.

Games O' Games
Hyperbolic drama queen thread title and OP aside, it is pretty infuriating when Steam versions get patches and fixes that GOG does not. KotOR 2 is a great example, a game I own on GOG but recently replayed on Steam because of a patch GOG never got which improves modern Windows compatibility and adds widescreen support.

Not sure whether that applies to Gothic 1 and 2 or not as the OP says, but either way it should never happen. Ever.

Good or Godawful ;). Just kidding guys. GOG really sounds great. Simple yet effective, since they deversified a long time ago. Cheers

tfishell: Actually they rebranded like 8 years ago, they aren't called Good Old Games anymore!
And yet, their staff still refer to the place as "gee oh gee", as if it's still some sort of abbreviation.

And don't get me started about how every single article for some new indie game will end with the words "now available on Steam and Good Old Games".

Their old moniker sticks, whether they like it or not.

I just recently played Gothic 1 and 2 from GOG on my Windows 10 pc and both worked absolutely fine (with the SAME FIXES used on the Steam version, which are all available on https://www.worldofgothic.com/)

I definitely understand the frustration of somebody who picks up these games expecting them to just work and is surprised by the need to apply fan made patches BUT the Steam versions are even worse as they also need the latest official patches to work.

Good Old Games honestly works for everything anyway, just read it as "them's some good ol' games" and you're golden.
so you think gog should be called "gogtdwonsanidtctri?"

how will anyone remember all that?! omg

kaboro: You mean good old games that dont work on newer systems and nothing is done to correct the reported issues?
Whats the point?

Would expect a store that calls itself Good Old Games, to take some extra steps to make sure these good old games work and keep working on newer systems, but nope, thats definitely not the case, and given the much larger popularity of Steam, you are much more likely to get these games going on Steam than on GoG.
How would you feel if the FCKing Operating System most people use (to play steam games) breaks compatibility of your stuff every 6 months?

I see many old games being updated, sometimes creating other bugs in the process.

Microsoft is not making things any easier.

Are the games good? Arguably.
Are they old? Quite.
Are they games? Well, yes.

Nowhere in their name did they promise WORKING games. That would be WOG or WGOG if we're keeping the "good" stipulation.

So even if we're using the old moniker, why don't they deserve it? We need answers, OP.

DreamedArtist: What does the new GOG name stand for? did they ever say it?
No. But unofficially it doesn't refer to the games anymore, but to us: Grumpy Old Gamers!
Let´s rename it to "Gods Of Gore", problem solved.
