@ZFR: it was my first post. I tried to write it unbiased, i.e. as if it were the first reply. If you're town, you probably can see the value in that. But if you're scum you will of course have to pretend to find something some townie does scummy. So if your scum, sure, go right ahead pretending. But if you're town, you're barking up the wrong tree.

Not going to push they/we things as I never saw it really working.
But it is curious how ZFR dragged Lift into it who had nothing to do with it at the beginning.

I've been wondering about that, too. Since it sounds like something right out of the book, did it ever really work in actuality? I don't have enough games under my belt to say, but maybe some of the more experienced players know of a time, that scum has been found because they said "they" instead of "we" or a town that has been mislynched for it. Or better yet both and a statistic to show which has been more common.

IIRC, I saw it (or something similar) used to pursue players only few times and either never or only in minimal amount of cases it turned out to be said by baddies. Certainly not in amount it could be considered anything else than random occurence.
But it was rarely used in games I played so I would say I don't have enough statistical evidence but as I have never seen it working, I don't find it worthy of pursuing myself.
It is of course also possible that it happens more often, it is done mostly by mafia but we are too oblivious to notice it. :-)

I think someone tried to vote me for me once when I was town and I think they were either mafia or mafia used to try to push my lynch but it ais also possible I am misremembering things. :-)

I tried to put a Lynch all Liars on you in one game (#31) where I was mafia but sadly it didn't catch on. I think I was almost lynched that day, though.

I looked what you mean and it was when I stated those obviously made up stats to ridicule someone and many people just took it at face value and wondered how high stats I have. Still amuses me.

Maybe in a complex post and depending on circumstances... But really the first thing a mafioso knows, the most basic rule, is to pretend to be town. Do you really think even the most newbish of players would post "they" (twice) about town if he had the game in hand in mind?
I wrote "they" because what I had in mind was a generic game when explaining the rules. They town plays vs they mafia.

Thanks for the replies guys. I assumed Town wouldn't share their roles and was actually attempting to encourage any Mafia bluffing. It doesn't seem like anyones gone with that though

With regards to Mafia, is it in their interests to be quiet and not expose themselves?

So we need 7 of us to vote on 1 player for a lynch? What if we don't get to 7?

And the dead player can only watch the game after being killed? Kind of sucks for the early rounds dead players.

But it's all non-sequitur, yes mafia wouldn't do it conciously but that's the point of a slip, isn't it? It's a mistake and wouldn't happen if you think about the post.
Can mafia not make mistakes? I think not.

I tried staying out of it and mast...erfully observing (as gkaiser put it) trying to make sense of it. Guess that's over, but still not swayed to vote on any of the cases. Well technically I'm on lift. but you know, not for this reason but to free sage. which worked. (well to be honest you made lift ungrapple, but I still like to think I did something for women's rights in mafia) But since I don't have a better target yet, it might as well stay there as anywhere else.
