I only see two problems here:
First, Steam lacks something that give developers something that can officially mark them as one. The only thing is the alternative colour in discusison boards of their games on Steam.
Second, this is another case of overprotection. Valve has implemented so many things like double, triple confirmations on trades that have to be done with external apps because people were dumb enough to accept shady deals and got scammed. Now, to protect dumb people who believe everything they contact people that have something between brackets in their name. As far as I know there is nothing that says that you can/will identify a developer through such a bracket.
