1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Lurtz: Development of Galaxy is going so slow... it's really disappointing to see.
Sadly I can't help but agree.

While I understand some features will take a while to develop, I still don't think it a good choice to focus on large spread out updates that GOG seems to be wanting to do. Smaller quicker updates each providing a new feature or two would be overall better. Even bug fixes are getting slower and slower.

I feel like Galaxy is losing it's momentum from the Witcher 3 and I can help feel is because people are expecting a service like Steam and with any service people expect that service to quickly add to and evolve, not these months in between large updates. I honestly feel myself slowly becoming bored with Galaxy after being a user since last December when the alpha launched because it's changing so slowly and is still nothing more than a glorified launcher and updater nearly a year later. Don't get me wrong, these features are nice and making playing GOG games easier, but it's something I could largely do without Galaxy.

What Galaxy needs is community features: such as profiles, an integrated gifting feature, ect, stuff that is going to get people online and sharing there gaming experiences with the community. Stuff that going to make Galaxy more than a launcher/updater for GOG Games.

No disrespect to the Galaxy team, I'm thrilled with the progress made, & I have no doubt they working hard and one day we will log into Galaxy an it will be an awesome experience. But it's sure taking it's sweet time getting there. I still hope we see something significant before the end of the year, even if it's just the delta patching or compress updates.

Was curious is there any place to see the patch notes?
Look at the game page, next to the MORE button. Look under Installed, you should see a version number. Click that and you can open the changlog for the game. Only recently updated games have a changlog.

Yeah, exactly. When I look at my time with Steam, the moment when I stopped merely tolerating Steam and somewhat liking it, was when the Steam Community really started going and you could gift and trade stuff, compare your purchases, see reviews directly in the client, and so on... I bought more that one game just because I noticed its promotion somewhere on the Steam Community, by other gamers.

I think for GOG to continue to grow they need more community features in the client and on the website - rather sooner than later.

I like trying out new stuff and that's why I'm a Galaxy user since the start of the alpha, but I know a lot of people who sometimes buy on GOG but don't even bother with Galaxy. And I can't exactly blame them or use convincing arguments for using Galaxy ;-)

It should at least be the last 32-bit operating system they should support and 64-bit Vista is compatible or should be compatible with Windows 7 and later since the code is built on top of Vista. Microsoft calling it 7, 8, 10 is just there way of trying to trick the consumer into thinking they changed the code drastically which is false. Most of the core is the same as Vista. How else are they going to profit except to claim a big digit number change to trick people like you into thinking Windows 12.0 is a big difference from Windows 7? As for user interface I think they've taken a step back ever since Vista. Adding eye candy doesn't make a user interface better.

BKGaming: I know the code base is largely the same since Vista. My point is if the company that made it doesn't support it, then asking another company to do so as far as running products on it is illogical. Even with the same code base, there is enough difference where an issue one might have is not being experienced on another.

But not to say that everything new is bad but you will be certain a ton of new bugs will crop up in Windows 10 that Window 7 doesn't have and most people probably shifting to Windows 10 aren't going to be playing old games or even care about old games but the latest and greatest. So if GOG has switched their purpose then they should rename themselves to GNG.

BKGaming: GOG switched their purpose back in 2012 (I believe). They don't stand for Good Old Games anymore and some people seem to forget that. I would also say 35% is way to high for XP, that has been is a fast decline for a while, most reports I've seen has it at like 10%. Even GOG has stated their user-base on these OS's are small, and they would easily have the statistics for what OS's are accessing the site.

BKGaming: Most gamers run at least Windows 7 if we go by Steam hardware results, and as I said GOG knows what systems are accessing the site. Your are also wrong about XP and support. It is a prime target for hackers since the patches for newer security loopholes are not sent to XP anymore. This is the support I am referring too. Any new hacks or techniques to circumvent XP's security will not be fixed by MS, the old service packs might be available but only up to where MS stopped support. Any hacker will tell your this or any security information class.

BKGaming: Well speaking on behalf of programmers everywhere, that is not always true. Even though I will admit some are lazy. Like any field you have your good and your bad. Doesn't dismiss as what GOG said as untrue.
Actually XP is still running on most POS systems for Banks and because of this XP is still not officially unsupported just yet.

Using this simple registry trick you can make your XP OS appear it is an XP Embedded version and get any of the latest patches for XP that MS is "still" actively supporting well into April 2019.

So as much you would like to think XP is no longer supported or no longer in use this is not the case.

Not everyone needs to be connected to the internet and for some people they install XP on a non internet connected network if they are really worried about any possible hacks. Again all GOG games are DRM free and can be played offline so you can always disconnect your network when playing or keep it as a stand alone isolated system. Just because an OS will one day not be supported doesn't mean it can no longer be used.

Also you are excluding people like me and others who have the capability of multiOS installation.
You can easily set up an XP / Vista / Windows 7 MultiOS Boot and surf the internet on Windows 7 if you say it is protected better than XP. I have yet to be hacked and I've been using XP almost forever. I did try Vista when it came out and thought it was horrible combined with the sluggishness and UAC annoyance. However years later and two service packs make quite the difference. Memory dropped in price and CPU performance has multiplied and Vista SP2 with DirectX 11.0 pretty much makes Windows 7 SP1 look like the ugly duckling when it was once the the favorite one.

When you say support it is not the OS GOG should be supporting but the consumers who are playing the games. What people use to browse the internet doesn't always dictate what they use to play their games on. Some people may be using the latest operating system to browse because they are using Internet Explorer which stopped supported older Windows versions and thus they are forced to upgrade their OS to access the internet. However there are 3rd party browsers that still support XP and Vista which solves that problem. Even if MS drops support for Windows 7 many people will still hold onto Windows 7 even beyond that date.

What I'm saying is GOG needs to maintain XP SP3 32-bit support and Vista SP2 64-bit support at the minimum as that would cover both bit OS bases for a long time. There is no need to make a special OS version specific for W7, W8, or W10. In fact some the newer OSes tend to more glitchy and buggy.

All later Windows 64 Bit versions should run any Vista based game unless you know something I don't.

If you run Vista SP2 with DirectX 11.0 patches you are basically running Windows 7 SP1 minus USB 3.0 support.

But actual testing shows USB 3.0 only achieves at peak about 2.0 times not 10 times the transfer speeds as stated.

Other than that there isn't much difference and Vista has a better interface.

XP is guaranteed support till April 2019. And if the Banks don't upgrade they may well extend it another 5 years to 2024. XP support is MS's bread and butter with Banks.

A prime example is Intel. They made the graphics drivers for their Haswell and Broadwell iGPU. For such a rich company it doesn't take much to program a XP or Vista graphics driver for their iGPU and would only account for a small fraction of total cost. Instead they used the same excuse you stated and pointed the finger at MS. Had MS said we are extending support till 2021 I'm sure Intel would have made a graphics driver. It's all about profits and if they can't sell a newer operating system their stock holders get pissed which is why MS is now pushing out new digit numbers for each OS and not providing Service Packs that go above 1 these days when the used to have SP4 and SP3 back in the day.

MarkoH01: +1 - your post reminds me of several postings I wrote at the time when everybody was trying to force me to give up XP. At last I did but only because there were a few games I really wanted which did not support XP anymore. I still think that the interface in XP is superior even though memory management and caching is not as good as in win7. I will never use win10 since I don't like anything about it - including the countless problems it produces with several games.

I assume that's a Tex Murphy icon you're using?

Mean Streets was one of the first best games for the PC from Access Software. They certainly were the first to make internal speaker digitized audio available to those without Sound Blaster sound cards possible. Not to mention they offered Monochrome, CGA, EGA, and VGA graphics option choices for the game. And yes if you had a really slow computer you could see how much faster it ran in Monochrome.

As for XP 32-bit there is a memory management bottleneck for what apps can use. I only noticed this when using Firefox when it hits around 1.5GB of memory usage. But then I usually have about 100 different Window tabs open so I'm a heavy browsing multitasker. I'm sure for someone who just has one or two tabs open XP will be just fine. I haven't tested if this same issue occurs on Vista and later using a 64-bit browser. But if this limitation doesn't exist and I can have a thousand tabs open at once then I will definitely consider using only a 64bit browser since it should be able to tap into all my memory. XP 64-bit doesn't have this memory limitation.

As for how much you can push XP 32-bit?

On an Ivy Bridge computer I maxed out my memory to 32GB. I was able to create a 28GB Ram drive on it with no issues. What I love about such a large Ram drive is the ability to install any XP game onto it and run it as fast as possible. No lag from hard drive access and it obviously beats what any SSD can do.

Most Vista and later games are quite large so there will be only a number of them you can do this with but almost every XP game out there probably installs under 28GB.

You could probably push it another 32GB to 60GB on a socket 2011 motherboard. I did see one socket 2011 motherboard that had a max of 128GB but those memory chips are expensive but if you had the dough you could achieve a 124.7GB Ram drive for XP 32-bit. There is no XP game that I know of that consumes that much space to install.

I know this too, but it's irrelevant for 99% of the consumer base who are unaware of this... officially support does not exist for standard PC XP installations. The US Navy also pays them to provide support for XP. Doesn't matter these are special cases because it's expensive and difficult to upgrade these system on which we depend on them for our well being. But generally, for your everyday consumer... no support does not exist.

Yes you could argue MS could easily provide this support to everyone, but even if the underline code is essentially the same, XP/Vista is really old software, and it''s not good for their bottom line to keep people using this old software.

TrueDosGamer: Not everyone needs to be connected to the internet and for some people they install XP on a non internet connected network if they are really worried about any possible hacks. Again all GOG games are DRM free and can be played offline so you can always disconnect your network when playing or keep it as a stand alone isolated system. Just because an OS will one day not be supported doesn't mean it can no longer be used.
Might be true, but the main purpose of Galaxy will eventually be an online feature set, an offline computer would be able to do nothing more than launch games which you can do without Galaxy. So there would be little to no purpose for needing Galaxy.

You can easily set up an XP / Vista / Windows 7 MultiOS Boot and surf the internet on Windows 7 if you say it is protected better than XP. I have yet to be hacked and I've been using XP almost forever. I did try Vista when it came out and thought it was horrible combined with the sluggishness and UAC annoyance. However years later and two service packs make quite the difference. Memory dropped in price and CPU performance has multiplied and Vista SP2 with DirectX 11.0 pretty much makes Windows 7 SP1 look like the ugly duckling when it was once the the favorite one.
Lets be clear I'm not excluding anyone, I'm telling you how GOG is probably looking at it...

TrueDosGamer: When you say support it is not the OS GOG should be supporting but the consumers who are playing the games. What people use to browse the internet doesn't always dictate what they use to play their games on. Some people may be using the latest operating system to browse because they are using Internet Explorer which stopped supported older Windows versions and thus they are forced to upgrade their OS to access the internet. However there are 3rd party browsers that still support XP and Vista which solves that problem. Even if MS drops support for Windows 7 many people will still hold onto Windows 7 even beyond that date.
Look I'm really not trying to argue with you over this. Progress requires dropping outdated stuff, it's time to move on, especially when the vast majority has moved on. The good thing about GOG is they are trying to make their entire catalog work with newer OS's so you shouldn't in most cases lose access to working stuff by upgrading to Windows 7 or greater. Hell even google has dropped support for Chrome on XP and Vista, and soon 32bit. This is the nature evolution of technology.

TrueDosGamer: What I'm saying is GOG needs to maintain XP SP3 32-bit support and Vista SP2 64-bit support at the minimum as that would cover both bit OS bases for a long time. There is no need to make a special OS version specific for W7, W8, or W10. In fact some the newer OSes tend to more glitchy and buggy.
In a way they do, all XP/Vista games supported on GOG are still supported on GOG, this is not changing. Everyone of them can be played without Galaxy. So they can be played by anyone running XP or Vista. Only Galaxy support is non existent. But GOG does not block you from using it on XP if you want, you just might get bugs or errors which they might not ever fix.

I used Galaxy on Vista for a few months without issue. Is it supported? No. It still worked just fine, what they are worried about is future versions not playing well with Vista or XP and having to spend time trying to fix these issues for such a small user base for software that is on it's way out and has been for a long time. From a business prospective it makes perfect sense to not support XP or Vista, and I say that as a long time Vista user.

BKGaming: Sadly I can't help but agree.

While I understand some features will take a while to develop, I still don't think it a good choice to focus on large spread out updates that GOG seems to be wanting to do. Smaller quicker updates each providing a new feature or two would be overall better. Even bug fixes are getting slower and slower.

I feel like Galaxy is losing it's momentum from the Witcher 3 and I can help feel is because people are expecting a service like Steam and with any service people expect that service to quickly add to and evolve, not these months in between large updates. I honestly feel myself slowly becoming bored with Galaxy after being a user since last December when the alpha launched because it's changing so slowly and is still nothing more than a glorified launcher and updater nearly a year later. Don't get me wrong, these features are nice and making playing GOG games easier, but it's something I could largely do without Galaxy.

What Galaxy needs is community features: such as profiles, an integrated gifting feature, ect, stuff that is going to get people online and sharing there gaming experiences with the community. Stuff that going to make Galaxy more than a launcher/updater for GOG Games.

No disrespect to the Galaxy team, I'm thrilled with the progress made, & I have no doubt they working hard and one day we will log into Galaxy an it will be an awesome experience. But it's sure taking it's sweet time getting there. I still hope we see something significant before the end of the year, even if it's just the delta patching or compress updates.

BKGaming: Look at the game page, next to the MORE button. Look under Installed, you should see a version number. Click that and you can open the changlog for the game. Only recently updated games have a changlog.

I can't find any patch notes on the GOG client. The game didn't update at all. it's latest version.

But the desktop Icon when I double click my game icon, it auto loads the GOG client.

today the GOG client downloaded a 80+ meg patch before I could get to the game

I couldn't find any patch notes on what they changed in the Gog client.

Ah, they post those at the top of the thread. Typically the last few updates have been back end stuff so they have not provided any type of changelog. When it's a significant change ie the version number changes, they will post one. The version number has not changed with this update.
when I try to acces to download extras from gog galaxy its like I never clicked on it ..... also when I click on a game in the gog galaxy game list it don't react .... I can unhide and hide the game , install it and so on .... strange is that an update was performed and since also my installed games don't show up in my side list on the left..... restarted pc .... reinstalled gog galaxy ... same issue whole time .... please let me know how to solve this ....


the old downloader was much better ....

it checked if files were already installed and if so it didn't download them .... this galaxy downloader download all ....

So another update with no change in version and no changelog. Why even bother with a changelog if you are not going to tell people what's changing. Even if it's as simple as bugfixes. That's the ENTIRE POINT of version numbers.

I agree. Update after update and no information about what's being changed, besides the fact that it looks like Galaxy hasn't changed in months. Is that really the impression you want to give to your user-base?
I'm getting a disk access error when trying to download a backup of Thief: Deadly Shadows which I had just recently bought. It only downloads so much of the file then I get an error and have to start all over without it resuming from where it left off. I set the shortcut to run as administrator and I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit. This is the first time I've tried using GOG Galaxy and it's leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. I've never had any problems with GOG Downloader downloading my games in the past so I'm a bit peeved.
