Rule #1 does give me some flexibility in how to deal with these codes. With that said I don't think I want to do another Ninja drop. Instead, I think what mrkgnao said makes the most sense (interesting how you always come up with the best ideas). The main reason I don't really like dropping open (or even obfuscated) codes is that it just attracts bots to claim those codes and then resell them at a later date. I see no reason why someone can't ask for it in the CG and I just give it to them with no restriction. We have another expiration coming up on April 30th so this will be another opportunity to see how this method works.

I don't think anyone can "claim" a code and resell it later as ninja codes are posted in public so they can't "wait" for resell. If they are not added to any account "at once" then somebody else can do this.

No I meant the bots can "claim" a code to an account and then resell the entire account. I don't have any examples of this but I'm sure scammers must've tried this by now.

I don't think such accounts can reach any high values, packed with "free" games. Also, I would prefer a simple code to add it to my own account than some additional one. It makes no sense to me, but, yes, it's possible - it just would need a "specific", rare type of buyer, so.... :)

EDIT: Two more things:
- I've never seen any such GOG account sale offers.
- If the game was free on GOG then I think that most of the bots already got it and they won't be hunting for posted codes.

I'm a bit late to the discussion about expiring daggered codes, but here are my two cents, anyway.

1. I think that the heads up post with the waiver of the eligibility requirement would be beneficial to be posted quite a bit earlier than 3-4 days before the expiration date - quite often, the number of copies available is such that they can't all be given away in such short notice (IIRC, Lone_Scout used to make the first announcement about a week prior to the expiration date), followed by 1-2 reminders as days pass. Perhaps the number of days could/should be set based on the number of copies available, with a maximum of 10 days for 10 copies and more?

2. I concur with the ideas of also posting in other related threads and inviting people to hop over to the GOG Community GA thread, especially in the Expiring Codes one, and perhaps even in GOG's related News post. The posting of these could follow the same pattern as the one in the GA thread itself (early announcement and reminders).

3. Regarding the Ninja thread, I'm with mrkgnao (post #417), as that thread should still serve as a last-resort announcement board for GOG Community GA thread.

The above requires a bit more effort from our host, but if after all this effort, codes still expire then that would indicate that there wasn't enough interest in them.

You're right about that. I need to remember to remove that eligibility requirement a bit sooner. And now you've reminded me about those Deep Sky Derelict codes that expire on May 3rd.

Perhaps you could do what I do when I want to make sure I won't forget: set reminders in your calender. And if you're not ready/able to act at that specific time, reschedule it for (a bit) later in the day.
I have an unrelated question:
Much of my activity over the past years here on GOG have been in the Forum Mafia corner (the admin thread, sing-up threads, and even the actual game threads). Those game threads devolve into many-paragraph walls of text and run 500+posts in 2 weeks (with 10 or 12 users) If I understand correctly, only the actual game threads (not the signup or admin threads) would not count toward the activity requirements?
Thank you to whoever clarifies this for me.
I don't think such announcements are on-topic in the gifting thread. Double posting in the ninja and expiring codes threads is already plenty anyway.

I will count forum mafia posts towards eligibility for the CG. When I said I don't count forum games for eligibility, I meant the low effort ones like "one word at a time", "word association", "just three words", etc.

I don't see a problem. That thread is usually used for key beggars so I thought it made sense to post there. I pretty much posted anywhere I thought freebie hunters would be looking for free games. Just trying to get as much exposure as possible for these expiring codes.

The fact that you're calling posters in the gifting thread "key beggars" is even more disrespectful than spamming your unrelated posts there. Go read the OP, in particular The purpose of this thread is to list games in the GOG catalogue that you would be interested in receiving from fellow GOG community members and treat other threads with the civility you expect in your own giveaway thread.

No disrespect was intended. I simply was stating what I witness on that thread. It was suggested by others that I post in threads where typically freebie hunters lurk and the GOG gifting thread was one that I thought such people resided. Once again, I apologize if I offended anyone for posting there.

Wow. Cool it, mate.

It's one thing to disagree with a term someone uses and where they post something, it's quite another to jump down the throat of someone who is donating their time to serve this community.

BenKii may not have been diplomatic in that post, but there are angels AND demons in our giveaway/gifting threads. There definitely is a certain truth to what he said, even if we don't want to admit it.

Okay, thank you! I appreciate your energy spent in running this show, your time and your response.

Erm... NO!! There is nothing to cool down here. I stand with Ice_Mage

This is not about disagreement nor diplomacy nor personal perceptions
It is about respect & dignity to all those forum members
I've seen enough denigrating opinions about that thread...
Sorry, but Nobody there is a beggar to me
Who the fuck am I or anybody else to throw that judgement?
And what you call certain truth it is not whatsoever. Period

So:
BenKii
This is my only and last gentle formal request:
Take your words & opinion back to yourself
Many of the forum members interacting on that thread
are active elsewhere here, are GA donors, GA receivers, posters,
contributors, people with money difficulties,
with payment processor issues, life downs,
people marginated by this very own store... you name it

If you want to insist & focus only on stupid suspicious that
neither you, nor Braggadar nor even the incompetent mods
(that have self admited to be uncapable of) to fully probe them
then acknowledge your position replying to this post

Oh... & a last cookie for your reasoning:
Do not forget no one is forced to donate to the members on that thread
Are you calculating by a chance to tell those donors "full stupids"
by your own wrong built criteria?
Have you the pair to shit on their generosity that way?

Again: Take your shit back where it never shows up again
& we can move on together to more constructive stuff
for this entire community

Thanks in advance, despite the outcome
