cubicu07: 4. Video previews of games

+1 for video previews
American Express support....
for those who don't know, Amex is a credit card.
I couldn't hold out and tried to use a VISA and it gave me this secured by visa crud (is that the credit card version of drm? I now can't use the Card I have and they provided without more hassle?). Thanks but no thanks.
and before you say Paypal... too much bad info about paypal and how they screwed people out of money. Vote with your wallets people say, that is what I am doing (by avoiding paypal).
Yes I've already sent a message about this and other questions and they said they were working on it... hope other people are amex only too and want to buy GOG software!
I don't think paypal can screw you out of any money you don't put into it, it's not like they could randomly choose to draw from your credit or debit accounts. Just don't keep a paypal balance open, and only use it on a transaction by transaction basis and you should be fine.
Also a suggestion: someone should tweak the "new msg" banner in the upper right when a new message arrives. I've had the same "new msg" for over a week now, it never goes away.
Better Searching of the Wish list, while the most voted list is nice, I think it does lend an opportunity for some games to be omitted, as users peruse that large list and get fed up and then just click on the readily available. Some one also mentioned a way to prune this list as well of all the double entries, this too is a keen idea. Sorting this list by title, genre', or number of votes would be helpful. There are some others but getting that information to begin with may be tough: year released and Publisher info could be big on that list.
Besides the Games list itself, and these boards, the majority of my early time will be spent on that list, perusing what may be coming, and making sure that my Good Old games of choice have made the list as well.
I don't think a lot of work really need to be done on the wishlist. I think it's really more just to keep us from flooding the board with suggestions, rather than a tool to help determine which games to pursue. They'll get the games they can, I think it's pretty obvious already which ones people want and which ones aren't as popular.

Request:
Make it so that beta users only have to enter their beta code until they create an account. Now that I have an account, I have to find the original email invite in my email, copy-paste the access code, then go to the beta site and THEN log in with my email and password.
Please, make it so that there is a direct account log-in with my email/password when I go to gog.com/beta.
Thanks!
The feature that I want the most is the ability to organize my game list. It doesn't even need to be dynamic -- simple operations like sorting my games list alphabetically or by rating would be nice. Really, I just want my list to be alphabetical, and I don't think that it's unreasonable to desire that. Someone should reply to me if I am just missing the way to do this!
Here is what I think would be ideal:
Software service that you can log into and have a list of all available GOG games with IRC channels for each game (click on a game - enter the channel). I think designing the channels to look like an old school BBS with ASCII graphics would be a nice touch to fit in the "old" theme. In addition the software could have the ability to match-make easily the older networking technologies (like IPX) by users creating a "room" or VPN from within the respective game's IRC channel. Also have voice communications available in that room and in the game.
(Like if Steam, Gamespy, Mplayer, Xfire, and Hamachi had a love child and it was the best of all rolled into one.)
Maybe GOG becoming the definitive place for not only purchase of classic games but networking, and community as well. There are many source ports, etc. for classic games that do matching very well but everything is specialized knowledge that the 1st time user has to spend researching and configuring. I think once a lot of the older classics with multiplayer (TCP/IP, IPX, or direct "modem-to-modem" type networking) have a centralized home with "point-and-click" type ease of use their respective communities would grow significantly.
Xbox Live Arcade's sales of classics like Duke and Doom have shown that there's a market for not only classic games sales but user friendly networking with voice communications as well.

Another vote for personal wish list, this would be increasingly helpful as the overall catalog grows in size. I have seen it at least in one other post on here.
low rated
I'd like to be able to blow it out my a$$hole.
There's a few games that are unsearchable on the Wish List page right now.
The search engine doesn't allow searches with only one letter... but with games like 'D', and '9', that's their full title!
Okay, so this topic is called "wish list" and I would like to propose a wishlist feature. Not a feature wishlist ;)
The idea is, frequently users (especially younger) might browse out or find in the news a game that's like "it would be great to play it", but they cannot afford it right now. So they could just add it to wishlist which would not let tem forget about the game and spare many organization troubles. What do you think?
If I could add a feature to the awesome service and website, it would be wishlists. I want to be able to add a game that is currentfly for sale to a wishlist so that I can remember buy it later or ask for it as a gift. (like Amazon's wishlists)
My main feature request is some kind of online play option for those games in the GOG.com catalog that support it.

The ability to save card info to the profile instead of having to input it every time you want to make a purchase would be a very good feature to have.
