paladin181: Your argument is invalid. You've demonstrated a complete lack if understanding, intentional or not, of how copyright works and the importance of controlling your own product.

Gudadantza: Come on. Let's not be so categorical or biased. Things are not so simple. Modding is a peculiar situation where each one recognizes, feeds back each other and let things stay without the need to be unnecessarilly srict. And it is better let things stay in that way.

A mod is a derivative work and you own some limited copyrights in what you created but what you created is likely copyright infringement regarding the original software or work.
No, modding typically falls under fair use (in the US) because it is transformative and does not usurp the market for the original. I cant speak for other countries, but derivative works are protected if they pass muster for fair use.

Ralzar: Having read through this thread I felt like weighing in as one of the mod creators involved.

* I made the mod "Darker Dungeons" which was included.
Etc, etc, etc.
Totally agree with all that you said Ralzar and I really hope that in future there will be a new GoG release which fully respect the points you raised.

As an old player my personal feelings are mixed.

On one hand I'm happy to have an "easy and fast" solution to give a run to DFU + mods and on the other hand I'm disappointed about how GoG managed it.
What concerning me most are:

A) Mods choices, potentially incompatible and source of bugs hard to solve, done upon the personal taste of a Youtuber when we could and should have had a mods collection (better multiple mods collections) known to be compatible and based upon the experience of the modders community, which I'm sure would have helped out if asked before and not after the "fait accomplis"

B) Having settings and keyboards changed in a way which doesn't respect the recommended choices for DFU

C) Choosing to bundle DFU with a long list of mods, which make troubleshooting bugs or hardware incompatibilities almost impossible to track down and solve and furthermore will make upgrading all this a nightmare.

Releasing DFUnity alone and then giving us one or more prepacked ready to install Mods collections it would have been the way to go imho.

I hope this disagreements will be an occasion for GoG staff to keep in touch with the DFU community and will give us players a better "product" in future.

For me it is the opportunity to know about your projects and will follow the community @https://forums.dfworkshop.net for sure.

PowergloveNinja: After I let that out, let me say this. GOG, lets make this a better package. Instead of dropping all these mods on top of the project pre-modded, why not offer the mods as "DLC" packages to the game?

You can ask mod authors in a timely manner. People still get their ease of use from GOG. You can even add more mods over time after proper contact. Instead of downloading and installing 5 gigs, you can instead download base DFU and just download the "DLC" you want. I could cut off 3 gigs from this pack alone if I just choose not to use one certain mod. Its just bloatware if I don't want it through GOG cut. Would be nice to have that DLC option. Opens up for more mods to the end users, and more time for you not to screw up. Also throwing up my paypal on the DLC page might would allow me to maybe make some small $, live, and continue my modding efforts in DFU.
Great ideas, really hope Gog will do this !
