timppu: Since you seem to know your Steam, how can I make the tiny text on the Steam client bigger? My desktop is 1920x1080 on a 17" screen, and the tiny text is quite hard to read, at least without glasses. I mean like the view where it lists my games, or all the options menus etc.
I have the same problem also within Team Fortress 2 ever since the latest update, as now the Community Servers are listed in a window with tiny text.
I don't want to use BIg Picture mode (isn't that a simplified interface for TV users?), nor do I want to lower my desktop resolution in order to make everything bigger on the screen.
Then again, I recall Galaxy having a similar issue, at least when viewing the GOG homepages through it. Why can't these clients have the same functionality to zoom the view like all web browsers do (or then that option is hidden somewhere)?
As for this Ubisoft offer... I might jump into it if they release something interesting (for free) that I don't already have on e.g. GOG. I see like 0 reason to obtain Sands of Time on UPlay, when I have a perfectly working version already elsewhere, especially one that doesn't require a client. The same thing like EA Origin offering Wing Commander games etc. for free.
Good for those who don't have those games yet, I guess.
Weird, GOG never notified me of your reply for some reason. I stumbled in here and saw your post just now.
I don't think you can configure the font size in Steam client officially. For the storefront and library bits you may be able to hack the font size by snooping around in the Steam client's folders for .css files and editing their CSS perhaps (I did that with Galaxy and it works nicely). I haven't tried to explore Steam client in this manner though so no idea if it is possible easily. Yeah, Big Picture Mode is designed for TV usage for the console gamer type crowd I believe. It looks nice and seems well designed but it's not my preferred way of doing things personally. Probably nicer if one is a big game controller fan and hates the keyboard and mouse. I'm the exact opposite though. :)
Yeah, I wish I could zoom in on all the gaming clients just like in mainstream browsers. Not possible and probably never will be, but as hinted above - with Galaxy you can hack the CSS files it uses to layout the user interface. I navigated to the directory they're stored in and there's a main.html there IIRC. Just loaded it in Firefox (looks messy but that's ok), then opened up the console with F12, and you can hack the CSS files and save them from there while reloading Galaxy client to see what it looks like. Just need to be careful to not hose it and then get angry at GOG for self-created bugs. :)
I grabbed both of the Ubisoft games already even though I have one of them on GOG already and the other on DVD. :) If I didn't already have an account on Uplay I probably wouldn't have, but if I have an account somewhere already and a free game is offered I will probably grab it if it is only a couple mouse clicks and no bullshit hassles. Some of the freebie promos out there want you to like them on Facebook, Twitter, and do a bunch of other crap ... that's perfectly fine of course, but if I have to do a tonne of stuff to get a free game I'll only do it if it's a game I really want badly enough that the effort I have to go through is worth it. :)
Looks like I have a total of 9 games on Uplay now that were all free:
- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (freebie from AMD for video card purchase)
- Might and Magic Duel of Champions (store freebie)
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (current promo)
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (store screwup a few years ago, they had a bunch of games free by mistake)
- Shootmania Storm Elite Demo (NFI)
- Silent Hunter 5 (store screwup a few years ago, they had a bunch of games free by mistake)
- The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot (not sure, store freebie I think)
- Splinter Cell (current promo)
- Watch_Dogs (someone on IRC offered it up to the channel I was in a while back and I was the first to respond)
So far I've only played a bit of Blood Dragon and Watch_Dogs though.
