I'm new at digital game sites other than GOG and Steam... does the X-COM Pack on Gamersgate have DRM? I had heard some titles on GG didn't...unless I was thinking of another site.

The whole package is DRM-free. ;)
The XCOM games appear to be all DRM Free. Gamer's Gate labels the games as DRM free if they are. I got a serial code once for activations on a DRM free game from them "Thief" but the game itself never asked for it.

That's right, the X-COM titles are DRM-free. The older titles run through DOSBox anyway, so no DRM. You may have to copy the setup.exe file to a different folder during the installation process to make a full backup if you wish to do so.

Edit: Ninja'd THRICE!!!
Edit 2: Just bought the pack from GG. You have to copy setup.exe during install for all games if you want to keep a backup offline installer.

Ah, that sounds great. I'm gonna get it.

Sorry for being stupid, but could you explain some more about what to do? Move the file WHILE installing? I'm not sure I know what you mean. Do I have to download a GamersGate program as well?

Buy the pack. Go to your "My Games" section on GG. Download the downloader for the game that you want. Run the downloader, and let it download the necessary files. You'll notice that a new folder called "GamersGate temporary files" or something similar was created in the folder where the downloader that you downloaded from GG was located.

You're still with me, right?

When the actual installer starts, don't press Next, I Accept, or whatever else there might be. Just put it on hold for a while.

Now, copy that new folder "GamersGate temporary files" in some other location away from the downloader. And you'll have a nice installer similar to GOG's, or similar to when you install from a retail disc.

?????

Profit.

Get it?

You get a downloader from them for each game. When you run it, it creates a temp dir in the same location as the downloader and downloads the setup files there. When the download has finished, it will launch the installer. When the installer is still on the first page, just copy the files from the temp dir to a location of your choosing and cancel the install. Select 'remove installation files' when it prompts. Then you can do an offline install from the copy you made.

[edit] Ninja'd!

Don't care...I got this pack for free using my blue coins. :)

Ah, sorry for being unclear. The games are DRM-free, but by default, the installer that you download from their site automatically deletes itself after you have installed the game. This means that you need an internet connection to re-download the game any time you want to install it. However, you can usually make a backup of DRM-free games on GamersGate by making a copy of the installer executable during the installation process. That way you can keep a full backup of the game, which you can then use offline.

When you buy a game on GG, it appears under your account with a download link. That link actually downloads a small downloader program (a few hunded kB) which then downloads the actual game. When you are done downloading, the installer starts automatically. At this point, you can go to the temporary directory and copy the file named setup.exe to some other place. This is the installer file that gets deleted when the setup is finished. After the installation is done, just select to keep the temporary files. Together with the setup.exe you then have a complete backup of the game.

By the way, at least for the first three X-COM games the entire game is contained in setup.exe, so there are no other temporary files that you need to keep.

Edit: Ninja'd twice again! I'm just too slow.

To download a game from GamersGate, you have to download the installer for the game. For example, the installer for X-COM will probably be called Download X-Com Complete.exe

After downloading it, you run it and it'll download the required files to a GamersGate Temporary Files folder in the same location as the exe you downloaded and ran. I usually have them on Desktop for ease of use

Once the files have downloaded, it will attempt to run. Don't do anything with it, leave it and go into the GamersGate Temporary Files folder and there will be a folder with numbers as a name. Copy that folder to another location and voila! You now have the game backed up and available to install anytime instead of having to re-download it

Hope this helps you, Gibush :)

You know, there's so many ninjas in this place that I feel like I'm in Shogun 2 for real :P
Ah, thank you all! I understand now. I'm just going to wait a little while in case Steam has it on an even better sale today.
