Elder Scrolls Oblivion Theme Music.

The first time i ever heard it sent shivers down my spine, it hits that epic fantasy music right on the head and i couldn't wait to jump in and play the game.

drealmer7: Mark Morgan's music is tops!

I love the use of Carmina Burana in Excalibur (but it gets over-used and inappropriately used in other things a lot!) - it's the best ever anywhere!
A classic piece that is also frequently used in film is Adagio for Strings, and perhaps the most effective placing of it in any film is in Platoon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECQeLQURNuw

That's from the menu I think. Yes, that is a dangerous theme. It makes you want to dive head first into the game and lose yourself for weeks :)

My favorite menu, for getting me in the mood to play the game, is Civ IV

Vangelis is superb, but my favorite of his will always remain Blade Runner's music, or whatever part of it he composed.

Wow, i love this one. I´m going to search to listen the entire themes. Thank you.
Having recently played (and finished) Descent 3 and its Mercenary expansion... most of the Descent 3 music was quite forgettable to me (and some I even disliked), but this music on the expansion pack's first level... very nice!

Maybe there were some other D3 songs I liked too, but at least that got stuck into my head.

Nearly all the bits of Koyaanisqatsi, but "Resource" remains a favourite.

The minimalism might turn some people of, but my goodness... Glass ... Especially the drop into the lower strings around minute 2 is godlike.
Still better than the charge of the rohirrim :p

NOTHING beats a proper Schnittke

And the Mines of Moria are my favourite part out of the whole of the lord of the rings trilogy simply because of the music (and Moria, duh).

As for Games;

Rise Of Legends is Magnificent (Duane Decker)

CIV III? has quite a lot of nostalgic value (Don't know the Composers name), as does the Tomb Raider 1 theme

Emperor Battle For Dune

But, Nothing beats Return to Castle wolfenstein

It's a shame I don't know any postmodernist video game OST's though.
Damn I must replay that game at some point. I remember surprisingly little of it, mainly that overall I did enjoy it. That music also sounded quite familiar.

If you are familiar with the Warcraft piece of music called Invincible I think Blizzard has made the sequal to it:

I'm surprised you of all people would recommend music from a game made by a couple of Turkish persons?

Your pick was so conventional that you could have just as well linked to the Star Wars theme music.
Lord of the Ring and the last episode of 6 season Game of Thrones nice song

And one of the industrial era pieces from civilization 3 which I can't seem to find right now :P

Oh yes, you must be talking about A journey in the dark which is one of my favorites from the trilogy. I listen to Howard Shore all the time :)

That's some heavy duty nostalgia right there, except for me it was Tomb Raider 2's theme.

Oh yes, Westwood made some seriously awesome music for their golden era rts games, like the infamous Hell March and Hell March 2. Another cool one from Emperor is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWtG3EkvSJg
]Tribute to Evil
[/url]. It's one game I still have to finish one day. I got quite far, but got stuck on the Ordos homeworld playing as House Harkonnen. At least I managed to scratch dune 2000 from my list some time ago.

I really should make a point of it to play this game one weekend and see what all the fuss is about.

Yes, invincible is one of my favorite WoW tracks :) This is also a beautiful piece, and sounds like the farewell music to some epic tale. Though not quite as good, and admittedly I am very biased when it comes to this film's music, but it reminds me a little bit of Now we are free from Gladiator.

Pretty damn cool, and I finally realized what it reminds me of: Tiberian Sun soundtrack. If the other music is this good as well I might have to give Descent 3 a try then. I've been meaning to play one of them again since I never managed to get far in any of them.

By the way, I was also reminded of G-police which seems like your type of game judging by the 'what are you playing right now' thread :) I don't think it's as difficult as forsaken or descent, at least not for the most part, but I would say it has a much better atmosphere. Sadly I don't think it's available for download anywhere :\
Indie game Larva Mortus has an unexpectedly epic track: Get Undead.
