FearfulSymmetry: ... *big hug* And if you ever want to vent, my chat is always open.
*big hugs back*

Lot's of thanks for your words, really.

"My chat is always open". I got this offer from so many of the amazing people here that it's probably easier to voice my sorrow out in the open. If anybody feels bothered by this, please tell and I'm gonna take it to a more private place, like chat or email.

And of course the offer works the other way also. My chat is open. Might just sometimes take a while until I'm able to respond.

Btw. have you noticed that kids seem to be at their worst on Thursdays? They're tired and bored and weekend is just out of reach.

Empress_Owl: Ho wow. Like Crow, I think I would have tasered them (and flipped tables)... or I would just have run away :-) you're very brave. Sometimes there is not much you can do in those situations, hélas... I think you did your best. Teacher is a really hard job nowadays, in my opinion [/feeling like a granny as I say that].
**Big comforting and admirative hug**
Well, I did have a moment were I went: "Okay, what now? Because I really don't know what to do." But then I thought: come on, you have to keep going! I will not admit defeat! THESE TEENAGERS WILL NOT WIN FROM ME! :P And yep, my coach also said that: "some days I really wonder why I went into teaching". I guess those days are normal, but I'd hoped things would go better. *big thank you hug*

How are you doing yourself, Owl? Are you also having good weather?

toxicTom: At home, well... we try to manage. My wife is really down in the dumps today, mostly because of the condition of her dad. She not being able to sleep properly isn't exactly helping. I'm a little worried about tomorrow, when I have to be in the office - leaving the house at 6 am and not returning until 7:30 in the evening. Fingers crossed she doesn't suffer some kind of breakdown. Dumb thing is, if it gets bad and she calls me, it takes me approx. 3 hours to get home :-/
I've offered to cancel the office day tomorrow and work from home, but she would hear nothing of it. It's true that this would probably piss off my employer a lot, but still...
Good evening, Tom !
I hope everything will go alright for your moving, and for your wife, and yourself too...
**Big warm hug**

pimpmonkey2382.313: *hugs everyone.* Not having a good sign with health issues, legs, ankles and feet are swelling. Pretty common with heart problems.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling better, Pimp...
I hope it will improve, or that the second doctor will give you reassuring news....
**Big comforting hugs**

No problem, and don't worry about it, I can totally understand that. And thank you for the counter offer. :)

Hm, I don't teach on Thursdays, so I haven't really noticed. But I'm stuck with the Mondays and the Fridays. Mondays they don't want to work because their head is still in the weekend. Fridays they don't want to work because it's almost the weekend again. :P And of course I have them at like four o'clock on Friday afternoon ... But the first day after a holiday is always the worst. This was the first day back after a two week holiday, and it's like you have to start all over again, blank slate, all progress gone.

Yup, everything is gone, like it was never there to begin with.

*hugs* Thank you owl. :)
*big hugs*

Looks like several folks having a rough time. I hope everyone's day improves as it goes! Love to you all.

Mostly busy being not-busy today. Need the rest in my headspace. Even opting out of music at the moment, just enjoying the sound of the fan in the corner and of the pup snoring. :)

Take care, lovely folks!
Goddamn it. Getting tired of my eye twitching. Need more coffee for the final stretch of kicking the shit out of this game.

You're either totally zen or about to have a complete meltdown. Try and enjoy either one. XD

I do believe you are absolutely correct. About which, I can't say I'm sure. ;)
Finally hit the first serious challenge of the game. 300+ attempts and counting.

As always I admire your patience. Or masochism. Or both. ;-)

What game?

6 of one, half dozen of the other. -laughs-

Bit Trip Runner, perfect mode.

It's interesting, having 100 percented Runner 2 a couple days ago.
It's plain to see that they scaled the difficulty way back, even on the hard mode.
Bit Trip Runner is much, much harder.

Yeah, that's strange somehow. Sometimes sequels are a lot harder than the original, sometimes they are noticeably "defused" (or dumbed down).
From a game like that I would have expected the former, to appease to the hardcore crowd that found the first game "too easy". Usually the "defusing" happens with AAA games and is called "broadening the appeal" or "making it accessible to a wider audience".

Since I'm currently playing DOOM from time to time I noticed that DOOM 2 is a lot harder, and Final Doom is a different league altogether.
Hey, those games might be something for you actually (of you don't have them played to death back in the day). The Plutonia Experiment from Final Doom (on Ultra-Violence) could totally be your cup of tea. I found Quake in Nightmare mode actually easier than this. And the nice thing is: (IMO) the level design is perfectly fair - you only fail because... well, you suck.

Urgh, I've only noticed now you're teaching teenagers... That's of course Nightmare difficulty... When you talked about kids I was imagining my own little devils (and how much I love them!) at ages 5 and 8...

From the Steam reviews I've read, the general consensus was that the first game is keyboard-smashingly hard.
I'd say they went with the broadening the appeal approach you just mentioned, try to get people who don't want games they end up ragequitting.

I have all those titles here. Beat Doom 1 and 2, figured I'd take a break before doing more.

Additional - Fucking hell, I finally did it. Two levels to go and a boss fight, and I'm done with this damned thing.
