FearfulSymmetry: Well, violence can indeed be super satisfying. Sometimes you just need to kill some things. In a messy way. :)
Feel that way right now. Unfortunately I'm way too drunk to play Hotline Miami right now. Gods, I wish I could be (emotionally) dead right now. We just had the first BBQ of the year. I know it would be sad because there's someone very important missing. I didn't expect it to be that bad. It fucking hurts. A lot. That empty seat, the missing input in the usual discussions about politics, education, even games... it's a huge black hole for me.
I've not even tears left.
My wife is struggling too. With our best friend (more like a brother) gone like that and the condition of her father... ATM it's really hard for us to support each other, I have the feeling trying to comfort each other rather drains us double than it helps us like it's supposed to be. We drag each other further down.
I think we could both "go to pot" for a while, preferably each on their own. But that's just not possible with kids and job waiting...
Fuck fuck fuck.
Sorry for my french here. Had to vent a little.

CarrionCrow: If you know in your heart that she's there for you, and vice versa, you're still supporting each other. Even if it doesn't feel that way.
That's what I keep telling me. I really hope it's true, but it doesn't feel this way some times. More like hiding ourselves away... each on their own. But then we cuddle and hug and hold hands and it also feels right - not always, but at least some times. AgentBirdnest: The messier the better. I'm thinking of adding Postal 2, FEAR, Rise of the Triad, and Blood to my rotation when this is done.
I really recommend Postal 2. Especially if you plan to play it "as peaceful as I can manage". FEAR is a good shooter with very good flow. And a stake gun *eg*.
Rise of the Triad is IMO boring. Take (Brutal) Doom instead.
Blood... The first is well worth playing if you liked Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior. Blood 2 is a let-down in terms of gameplay. But some nice one-liners...

Sometimes you need that level of distance in order to process awfulness on your own, in your own way, so you can approach something resembling a working quasi-peace in your own head. She's not feeling exactly the same as you, and you aren't feeling exactly the same on all levels as her.
Humans don't work that way. So the space to come to grips with things on your own terms can be a good thing.
The possible alternative is one or both of you feeling frustrated and powerless that you don't know the exact thing, or sequence of things, to make someone you love feel better.
It's also an indicator of the degree of care you have for each other that the distance is present at times. You don't want to cause her additional residual pain, and she's thinking the same thing.
It doesn't surprise me to hear that it feels off sometimes. Despair, misery and pain do a fantastic job of fucking up someone's head. Also, you and your wife are partners, but neither one of you have a magic wand to make those moments somehow utterly insulated from all the bullshit you're both going through.

Hmm. Only one hundred and something levels of Runner 2 to go.
That game gets frigging long when you do all three difficulty levels on each stage along with looking for hidden crap.

lol~ Are you talking about yourself, 'cause I seem to remember a certain someone forcing himself to play certain games just so he could say he finished them and never look back. XD

Just another quick hello to the thread before trying for some sleep.
**Oh, also, a question for any/all Faces of Fred: I really enjoy looking through your wishlists, but I often have Steam keys for some games I find that some of you are interested in, but never know who also uses the rental service... For any thread folks who are also on Steam, feel free to add me or chat me your Steam info (or just your wishlist link if you'd rather not be Steam friends, I won' t cry.) :)
I'll warn, I almost never play games multiplayer, so I likely won't be joining in any reindeer games, but I could spy your wishlists, and of course chat on Steam if you're so inclined.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

No interest in game codes, but I did send you an invite.

Thanks for the invite! Replying from tablet before passing out, so forgive any formatting issues. I can never tell.
I guess you really don't have an interest in game codes. That's less like a Steam wishlist and more like a Steam wish. ;)

I don't mind your venting.
So sorry to hear life continues to be a hard struggle.
Perhaps the change of scenery will bring about positive things.
When my wife got really sick (over 2 years ago, and she's better now), it was also draining. What makes it worse, is if in the long run I have to dwell on this stuff constantly, and we can both make a routine of the misery. It was a bit like that. And I guess it sort of just can happen. I also drank, went away with my friends for a weekend, sometimes stayed half a day with my father or my brother... Anything to distract me enough and give me some joy of life, and then.... The misery was there less and less. Of course for me and my wife, nobody died, so it was just a mental struggle - but there was a time we didn't know if she was going to survive it.
I hope life will treat you and your family to something joyful very soon!
You deserve it!

I really wish that people would add the games they're even *interested* in to their wishlists (over at Steam) -- If I can't see that they're interested, I can't give them games! ;D

I can try add you on Steam. There are just way too many buttons and switches on that machine for me to handle :)
I also don't want to join any multiplayer, reindeers or not :P
Although, it might be fun to do something someday with people from this thread - but preferably with a working gog galaxy.

I run a mass Steam giveaway over on another thread, but having multiple wishlists would certainly be helpful. **Oh, also, a question for any/all Faces of Fred: I really enjoy looking through your wishlists, but I often have Steam keys for some games I find that some of you are interested in, but never know who also uses the rental service... I'll send you my Steam info, and if anybody else would care to link me to their wishlists, it would make my job a lot more effective.
