I'm having this stupid error for at least one year. I'm at Windows 11.

I believe that in my case GOG Galaxy is breaking Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable because once I start the MSVC++ redistributable installation and choose Repair installation GOG Galaxy is running again without failure. I guess the procedure needs to be applied after every GOG Galaxy update as well.

Look for "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable latest supported downloads" for the latest Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable and install it to update to the latest version / run Repair installation option once GOG corrupts it again.

Edit: it's broken again after the restart

You don't even need the galaxy client to access your games. Just uninstall the client, and forget about it.
Download the games directly from your account here - https://www.gog.com/en/account
View the downloads for each game.
Ignore the blue 'Install galaxy' banner - you don't need that.
Use the normal game installers a wee bit further down.

then today I got the error.


what worked for me was shutting off my VPN and now it works like it used to.

not sure why it suddenly interfered with GOG Galaxy but after this I think need to keep it as off in its exceptions.

Can't use Galaxy, I get this error as well. Hundreds of games on GoG now not accessible. This is really frustrating.

You can access your games just fine through your account.
You don't need to rely on the galaxy client.

Navigate to where your installations are installed on your HDD and run the games directly. I feel your pain with getting Galaxy to run properly, but in the meantime you haven't lost access to most single-player games.

I'd say that's the game using the API (via the Galaxy dll) to try to find Galaxy. In games which actually take extra time to load I'd blame both the game devs and GOG itself: the former for doing a sloppy job allowing the client check to interfere with game loadings, and GOG for the Galaxy integration API in the first place for taking too long to perform said checks. I can't be certain who's more at fault because I'm unaware how the thing is coded. What I do know is that most games will not load at all if you attempt to remove Galaxy's dll from the game directory.

Short answer: no. I don't think there is a way of getting rid of the delay. It's a coding issue.

Experiencing this same issue. Reinstalling did not resolve it.

Is Gog Galaxy abandonware? I know it's not a game, but perhaps we could petition Gog to add it to their offerings.

I've tracked this down to two issues -

- Connection to GOG Galaxy Communication Service was lost is related to hyper-v. Uninstalling hyper-v makes this error go away. Who knows why.

- Unable to install a game (it sits and spins at the install screen indefinitely). This happens when IPv6 is enabled.

This is pretty bad, I can't use this app at all if either I have hyper-v or ipv6 enabled. No other game client has issues with either of these technologies.

Bingo, I have the HyperV hypervisor enabled. Thanks for posting your findings.

This needs to be addressed ASAP. Every other gaming platform and title runs fine, and there’s no way I’m removing HyperV.

I thought I would finally use the launcher only to get this issue, thanks for posting this information, I cannot uninstall Hyper-V as my personal Dev environment is there, so I guess I'll stick with manually downloading everything :(

As for blame I don't care who's they should get there shit together, speaking as a developer, where is the testing especially as this has been an issue with people on the forums for ages!

Just ran into the Hyper-V causing Galaxy not work and on a whim I tried to enable compatibility mode (used: Windows 8) and it seems it worked. Or at least I could install and run a game without getting the error message again.

Might be worth a try until GOG fixes the problem...

I fixed the problem for myself. I tried every solution here, but none worked.

My solution was to log on to my administrator account and install GOG. (Just to be safe, even while using my admin account I right-clicked the executable and selected "run as administrator.")

Before I found this fix, I had tried to install GOG Galaxy using "run as administrator" from my non-admin/regular account. For some reason that didn't work and I had to log into the administrator account and install GOG Galaxy from there.
