Kardwill: Note that PoE is one of the games for which Galaxy doesn't work very well. On my computer, Galaxy tries to DL the whole game (not just the patch) every time there is an update. Which, on my 250k/s connexion is... less than optimal. that's the reason I cut off auto-update for this game, and I DL the patches manually (using galaxy to DL the installers/patchs and then running them, just like I did with the old downloader)

HunchBluntley: Yeah, I saw someone (Luned? can't remember) in another thread commiserating with someone else who had some flavor of this same problem. I've never tried Galaxy, and have no interest in Pillars (i.e., don't have it), so I was just speaking in generalities.
Yep, it was me. I still haven't gotten back around to working that problem, since the download will take a while and I was playing other things. Probably I need to check my portable HD to see if I have the main download already backed up, in which case I'd only need to add White March and the patches. Because of the problems Kardwill described, I rarely even start Galaxy any more (and I never let it load on startup). I had the devil of a time just trying to convince it to keep the autoupdate box unchecked for PoE.

tfishell: If you don't mind me asking, why would you buy it here then? Why not just on Steam?
a price difference of about 9x.

ncameron: Since this doesn't seem to have been properly addressed, the main install files are already patched to 3.02, so there's no need to download any of the patches. The same applies to any of the expansions (the white march) - if you get the latest installers for each, they are already 3.02.
perfect, that answers a lot. Thank you and everyone else for their time.

ValamirCleaver: Here is a thread where I gave advice to another user who had a similar problem with PoE.

Didn't realize they'd updated the installer to 3.02, so sorry for the bad advice re adding the patches. No need for them, then. Thanks to ncameron for pointing that out. Keep us updated on your progress, especially if you hit another snag.
Big shout out to everyone that helped the OP out here.

I'm getting tired of people saying this forum is turning to shit because that is obviously a crock.

It depends who answers, often who answers first. It's shit when there's a bunch of wiseass remarks for relatively benign newbie questions.
And that is the last time I try to say something nice in here. :P

He did seem a bit snarky with his first post though. I did try to help but didn't seem to do much good. :P

You were very helpful actually. I think the main problem is gog is pushing the galaxy client so us newbies here basically see only that up front. That is what is frustrating, buying a game and not getting to play it because the distributors client refusing to function as you'd expect.

As far as this post goes galaxy doesn't work with PoE and as far as I can tell it downloaded 15gb of nothing and then removed it... whatever was there to remove.

And yes I was a bit snarky, sorry, I wasn't trying to take jabs but i'm willing to bet that if I do it at galaxy's expense the gog vets wont seem to mind. Most here are so anti client it just proves their stance :)

So tldr; Don't use Galaxy for PoE (for now).

quick edit: I marked the gogdownloader link post as solution, but for the record everyone who clarified installer versions and patches/DLC are equally helpful
