luckydman: I don't, the only thing is that it has Drm free games, which causes a huge loss for them, disabling them to listen to your feeble demands and requests and work on them. So please stop whining and if you don't like GOG, then stop using it instead of making them work for you.

Also, the thread's name literally says boycott GOG, which is why a point of doubt starts to occur.
I do like GOG, or at the very least I like what they were for a long time. What they seem to be slowly turning into, not so much, but I don't believe for a second that it's somehow too late for GOG to change that.

GOG is a business. It's arguably their job to work for their potential customers, including us and you (assuming you are one), as well as anyone else who might buy something they sell. That said, we're not "making" GOG do anything. We're simply not buying the games they offer, and making sure they know about it and why. It's my money, so it's not like I'm obligated to buy anything.

What do you expect would happen if we weren't here to discuss that topic? Do you believe that GOG would suffer less from not knowing what we are up to or what might change our minds?

EDIT: Fixed a minor formatting typo.

Out of interest, why? Are you happy with there being no improvements, correspondance, or even acknowledgement, and removal of support?

I'm conflicted and I'm curious how others on this thread feel. I've bought nothing from GOG since 12/16/2020 (actually bought Hollow Knight that day as a gift for a friend who wasn't familiar with GOG). I have my beliefs and while I don't need to reiterate them or impose them on anyone else I want to communicate my steadfastness. I am not looking for an exuse to "cheat".

With all that said the situation in Ukraine is disturbing. I have my thoughts and anyone paying attention will have their own. I'm not looking to turn this forum into a political debate or a discussion on world history (I enjoy both but that's not the point of this particular thread). People are dead. Some of them civilians. This is good for nobody. I can't end this of course but keep in mind: The higher we stack the corpses, the harder it becomes to forgive.

Which brings me to my point. There are several developers pledging money to benefit the current Ukraine conflict in some way. I'm aware corruption runs rampant through plenty of non-profit organizations but the human empathy in me wants to do something to help the people suffering. I'm an American of European descent and I'm well aware that had my ancestors not immigrated to the USA 90 years ago I could be the one living the current situation. I'm typing this on a computer in America on a site owned by a Polish company about a conflict in Ukraine and I know I'll get responses, because our enjoyment of games and culture unite us here. I could be standing in your shoes anywhere on the planet and while I'm lucky that today my shoes are on safe ground I feel a kinship with people in a warrzone who just want to debate what the best Final Fantasy game is (pointless I know, it's VI).

So what's our stance on this? Is it okay to spend a few dollars as a show of good will despite our frustrations with GOG? My soul says yes. I do my best to not be a stereotypical ignorant American. I understand the conflict better than most of my fellow citizens I think but my question is one of humanity, not politics.

Yes. Personally even I have considered buying that even though I don’t want the game. Whilst there are issues here that should be addressed at some point, there are far bigger issues outside both happening now and worrying could expand rapidly.

Personally, I still won't be buying anything here. There are plenty of other ways to contribute and donate, even directly to the Ukrainian Red Cross.

https://donate.redcrossredcrescent.org/ua/donate/~my-donation?_cv=1

But I also don't care if anyone else does choose to buy this game at GOG.

Not at all. Despite the request I made, my view on the matter hasn't changed.

Thanks. It’s just interesting to know. I imagine GOG will plough on with their direction either way now.

I see you are still hiding behind an alt account and GOG has yet to take any measures.

You care enough to keep posting in bad faith here. But, it does result in this topic staying current on page 1 of the forums. Thanks! If you really don't care, you would stop posting in this topic.

Time4Tea: Done! Welcome aboard! :-)

The list on the first post has now been updated. It's nice to see that a couple of new people have signed up on the list in the past few days. Kronan's free publicity seems to be doing wonders ;-)

Syphon72: Just saying I have seen him post on Zoom, which can become a circle jerk of hating GOG sometimes. He is promoting Zoom on these forums constantly seems like he made up his mind about GOG. Also, pretty sure I saw him saying something about never going back to GOG on Zoom. Unless someone else had Time4Tea and pooh as avatars at the time. Lol
avatar
Time4Tea: Yes, I am quite active on the Zoom Platform Discord chat. What of it? Yes, there tends to be some criticism of GOG going on there sometimes; however, I would argue that most of it is quite justified, based on GOG's recent actions and decisions.

Objective, justified criticism =/= hatred. I don't hate GOG, I dislike the direction they have been taking in recent years and I want them to change. The world needs good, DRM-free game stores and GOG has a place there. But, they have been turning their backs on that, through their own cynical decisions.

I am advocating that people try out Zoom, as an alternative to GOG, for those who are similarly disenchanted. I do that because they are a really good store that are passionate about DRM-free, with games that work well and great customer service. A healthy free market needs competition and options for consumers, and DRM-free gaming is no exception.

avatar
Syphon72: To me, that comes off a little hypocritical. We do not know how zoom will turn out in the future—acting like Zoom is so much better comes off little fanboys and naive.
avatar
Time4Tea: It's hypocritical to criticize GOG, because another store might do something similar in the future? So, we should treat those that have committed offenses and those that have the potential to in exactly the same way? Whatever happened to 'innocent until proven guilty'?

Your statement makes no sense whatsoever.
I find it funny OP of the boycotting thread is a mod on ZOOM discord and even met the CEO. Come off little fishy. haha

You praise Zoom like they're the seconding coming when they still have a lot that needs improving. It's easy to have great customer service when you have such a small community to support. Let's see how ZOOM handles customer service when they have thousands of games to manage.

I bought a good amount of games from ZOOM already. Several games have had issues working, but lucky support or I fixed them.

Also, seen people straight out lie about GOG on ZOOM discord.

To me, it comes off as hypocritical giving zoom a free pass, but craps on GOG. It's obvious you are biases at this point.
