My thanks to the mod who cleaned up the thread.
I hope GOG provided you an easy means to delete posts by users or something. If manually. Double the thanks.

Add me to the list.
I just went to install the 2013 Tomb Raider on Steam (new system) and found out that Steam has now incorperated EPIG on their OLD games now, not just the NEW games.
So, I came here to buy (for the umpteenth time, litterally) the TR games that I dont already have here on gog, only to find out that GOG is forcing EPIG on its users, not only in its new games, but OLD SP games as well!!!
Well, see ya later alligator (gog).
I have been trying to get away from EPIG since metro exodus, and now that gog is catering to them also, I guess my new thing is playing old games from cd's and dvd's, and eventually to movies and tv again.
Sigh.
WHY, gog?
WHY?
Need money THAT badly, that you will take anything anybody throws at you? You were my last hope for OLD games, where I came for (1/2) drm free NEW games, and now you just chuck it all and do like EPIG and say F you users!
Goodbye. Who needs any of you now? Steam has better game structuring tagging (over 500 games) integration anyway, so whats left for gog? Nothing.
:(

I'm confused. GOG is forcing people to install Epic for GOG's Tomb Raider games? -_0

The only thing in the offline installers for Epic would be the dll if at all. Unfortunately nowadays, due to all the clients and demands of games these things are locked into games. The dll should do nothing for GOG games, and you will find galaxy ones, steam new etc. all of which should do nothing other than if you have the relevant client installed.
Or did you use galaxy to buy off the epic store? GOG in their wisdom do well epic games via galaxy.
So not sure what you have done, but you can buy TR 2013 from GOG store on the website, download offline installers and never have galaxy, epic, steam or any other client crap installed (but you can’t get rid of the dlls as they are had coded in).

Wishmaster777: Ok, let us stay positive, and keep the thread going.

Let's talk about something nice. Tell us in the comments what are your favourite reasons for boycotting Gog. Are you on full boycott, on partial boycott, or just supportive towards the others who are boycotting it? Stay positive, and smile more. :-) And keep the boycott going. :-)
Full. No purchase since Nov2020. And what has happened over that time (let’s ignore anything pending from before that as the list is huge), nothing has changed, support has been removed, more “accidents” like hitman, and a news post about how they will refocus on drm free? Resources have all been pulled over to work on CDPrOnline. The future really doesn’t look good at this point, either they get brought by someone who will drastically change the store for good or bad, or they will end up being a shadow store rarely used or some key seller like humble.

Hexchild: - The heavy pushing of Galaxy, which I want no part of
You missed one: the forced "upgrade" of most Galaxy users to version 2.0
(minus those that blocked it or reverted back to the older version)

avatar
Hexchild: - The removal of perfectly good (and even helpful) reviews
And then giving some (often BS sounding) reason like "review b*mbing"

avatar
Hexchild: - The lack of a clear definition of what DRM and DRM-free mean, from GOG's point of view
They likely won't do this for the same reason(s) they don't provide more clearly defined forum rules.....it gives them more "wiggle room" to do as they please.

Hexchild: Though I did back the System Shock remake kickstarter project in mid-2016....
Speaking of: I wonder(given the multiple delays) if this game will ever see the light of day.
Well DNF eventually came out, so there's still a chance I guess.

My guess is that those who own those games and use galaxy(which is linked/tied to epic) might see an "upgrade" coming their way if they play the games that way(and not, say, through the offline installers).

(iirc some other games do that as well.....get "upgraded" with DRMd versions......if run through galaxy)

I wasn't aware of that happening since I wasn't using Galaxy at all, so it wasn't one of the things annoying me at the time. But yeah, if I had been one of the affected users I'd probably have been very annoyed and probably stopped bothering to use it.

I hear ya.......imo it would've been somewhat fair if GOG had went the "deprecation route" and still allowed the old version's use, or even just shut the old version down over time, but they just forcibly "upgraded" everyone who didn't have updates blocked.

To me this is more something M$/Steam/etc would do, and not something any actually pro-consumer store/company(as GOG claims to be) should even think of doing.

The thing is, they may actually be on a permanent boycott, as they actually haven't bought any games...

What if it gets boycotted and all your games from library disappear? That would suck, okay? You guys do not wanna do this.

My library is downloaded to an offline external HDD. It can't disappear because GOG does. Unlike steam DRM.
If the only reason you support something, is because they hold power over you, than that's a Stockholm syndrome hostage situation.

Like we've said countless times, we do not want GOG to fail. We want it to succeed, but not by becoming something worse. Why do you want GOG to become worse?

I don't, the only thing is that it has Drm free games, which causes a huge loss for them, disabling them to listen to your feeble demands and requests and work on them. So please stop whining and if you don't like GOG, then stop using it instead of making them work for you.

Also, the thread's name literally says boycott GOG, which is why a point of doubt starts to occur.

Please stop telling people to stop whining. If you are not interested the topic, there are plenty of others you can contribute to in this forum.

If thing's are unclear to you, reading the first post would be helpful.

In that case, I would still be able to play my games. They are DRM free, and I have backup copies of them.

As others have pointed out, this boycott is not to bring GOG down. Please read the first pages of the thread.

This boycott is a consumer complaint to ask GOG to keep enforcing "DRM free" (among other things). People in this thread have pointed to cases where forms of DRM have already crept into the platform. GOG seems to be relaxing/slipping their DRM free core value little by little: allowing exceptions, dancing around definitions, integrating with external DRM content, or prioritizing a digital client over backup installers.

What if you stay silent about this, or if you try to silence those few who complain? Probably, at the end of the slippery slope, GOG would eventually ditch "DRM free" (maybe not in name, but surely "de facto") because nobody really cared too much about it.

And that's when nobody would be able to play their games should their libraries disappeared.
