It's natural to buy too many, your just saving them for later.

That's what I used to say about condoms and then I found out they have an expiration date. There is nothing more depressing that throwing out a box of expired condoms.

When the time comes tiny, the last thing you'll be thinking about is expiry dates. :P

Uh...considering what he's been through...
Why can't I be both?

I collect games that interest me so I can play whatever I'm currently in the mood for whenever I want to. I won't ever be able to play all the games I buy or even be in the mood to play them, but having a large collection at my disposal makes sure I always find something that I enjoy, and when I find something that clicks with me, I completely play through it. And since I don't pay that much for each game individually, it's not that much more costly than just buying a few games at full price. I just like to try all kinds of games, get a good overview of what's possible in gaming, even if it means I'll play some games only for a few minutes, but that doesn't mean I don't put a lot of hours in a single game as well, if I discover it's fun. I'm just not the type to replay my games several times; I'd rather try something new.

I'm a gamer, collector and also completist. ^_^
Both.
I find I'm more of a collector these days, though I do try to play each game I buy.

When it comes to old games - I tend to buy the ones I have played to death in my past - but I don't seem to play them all that much anymore. I just like having them available and easy to install when I want to play them again :)
I collect gamers.
I bought enough to be able to play for a couple of years. It actually takes some buckling down to put a dent in my library hence my sig. I got 218 titles in my library. Not counting other media.

I buy what I want to play. If im not interested than I won't buy it even it goes for like a dollar.

misteryo: I'm an idiot gamer. I love to play games but I buy way more games than I can play.
Pretty much this.

As for hours put into a game, it really depends. Some games I have put a ton of hours into and others I just played till I finished it and will probably never play again. Then there are some I might play for a bit, put down, then play again some months later.

Leonard03: A gamer. I can't see the point of just "collecting" games, seems like a waste of money. (Yes, I am judging you all :D
Edit: to be clear though, I don't play every game to its max. Most of the time achievements have no draw for me, though I recently surprised myself by getting all the achievements in Bastion.
Especially if it's a digital game. I suppose I could see buying a game if it had cool box art to put on your bookcase or something, seems pointless to buy a digital game you have no plans to ever play.

tinyE: You said the same thing to me when I told you I like to dress up like a fairy and sing show tunes all while hitting myself in the head with a shovel.

"I don't see the point" you said!

Just because you can't see the genius of something doesn't make it pointless!
That was different. That was because talking about a shovel in my head makes me feel squeamish.
Gamer but it seems like I'm a collector when I look at my GOG library. I sometimes buy more than I can handle at a given time but that usually has to do with digital purchases.

Solei: Mostly a collector here.

I go after old (retro) consoles and games in cartridge and cassette format, and arcade pcb's. Some thing are just nice to own (see image)
I have a relatively large library of pc games - but the vast majority of game time is spent on relatively few titles.
And no, i don't sink my cash into subscriptions - i buy properly licensed software ;)
Wow! That is in very nice shape. Congrats!
you know them game cassettes, can they be overwritten. what i mean is in the days of vhs, you could just record some t.v. show over it. so them retail game cassettes/vhs/audio etc and modern magnetic tapes, can you accidently over-write them or are they write protected like cd/dvds?
