GOG needs to clean up there shop front by removing all the DLC spam not redesign the site into a youtube video browser.

The one thing I actually do remember is how the game shelf looked when GOG started. I liked that look and will probably not forget it soon. If you have never seen it, I recommend searching for a screenshot of the good old days.

It just may be I remember it so well because it was the start of digital gaming for me, not because it was so good.

Anyway, afterwards, GOG was mostly different shades of grey with some purple blobs sometimes. I didn't pay much attention and concentrated more on the functional aspects of the web site.

I also cannot stand this new look. I made a long post yesterday, detailing the many issues with the new pages.

I'm now checking to see what's on sale, and what do I find? The listing pages have been redesigned as well. We are now forced to view the games in grid style (like Humble Bundle), with no choice for list style. Also, everything is bigger, there are only three games per row, and the games are shown with thumbnail images only, no printed titles.

This new design is a serious downgrade and will likely turn me away from GOG. I still prefer games to be DRM-free, but if it's a choice between Steam (DRM) and GOG (assault on the eyes, more difficult to see what is on sale, and much more difficult to find information on the games' product pages), then I'll choose Steam. GOG prices are often more expensive anyway, and new games don't have any included goodies like the old games did (I'm not saying that's GOG's fault, but that was one of the only two reasons for purchasing from GOG).

I think the only way GOG could have done a worse redesign is if they switched to an osCommerce shopping chart.

Am I the only one who really doesn't mind the redesign? I have neither a positive nor a negative opinion.
The filters are more comfortable to use now though, and the "verified users" one is much appreciated.

Those banners takes a lot of space, no matter the resolution - on 1080p you can see up to a row of screenshots. But it's relatively easy to "fix" it, if GOG won't address the issue themselves.

I really don't understand what they did to the front page, the rest is mostly good so far.

I will amend my original post from yesterday. I found before that the game pages were not well designed for mobile devices. The banner was large and it wouldn't scroll through images properly.

They seem to have made adjustments to the game pages now. The banner isn't as big and I am actually able to scroll through the images. They seem to have optimized it a bit more and my major complaints have been mitigated.

I do like the fact that there is now a drop down for the different editions of the games, and they should find a way to unify the DLC for games into the game page in a similar fashion. Anyways, it looks like they're at least trying to fix some of the problems people are pointing out, which is nice.

It's like I'm looking at a site that's trying very hard to emulate Steam.

With all the unnecessary clutter and overabundance of advertisement on that store page.

The old layout was not only instantly readable, it was -useful.-

I could look at the list of the recent annoucements (what happened to THAT?!) and see if I missed something interesting releasing.

The "on sale" and "recently released" tabs were right there, instantly accessible as well.

Now? It's four screens of scrolling, and most of it is irrelevant advertisement bloat I'm not going to bother with. I stopped even visiting Steam's main store page for exactly the same reason, to the point where I changed my "default" display simply to game library.

I do hope part of it is due to ongoing sale, but I do not like the new look. More important, I do not find it useful at all. Keep it fast and simple, GOG. The modern version of blinking gifs is not a good design practice.

Unfortunately that's pretty much GOG's usual MO - launch something untested, unfinished and poorly thought out, then patch up some of the most glaring issues if enough people complain and then make a note: "huge success".

I also have a feeling that, despite being once specifically a store targeted at older users and old-school sensibilities, today GOG's staff genuinely doesn't understand such customers at all anymore. Everything seems to be aimed at chasing fads and following trends and any concessions towards people who value their privacy and don't want any of the "social network" aspects of gaming are made as an afterthought and usually begrudingly (the extremely passive-agressive, indiginant statement they made when graciously granting us the option to disable our profiles was a great example).

This. I was just about to write something to that effect myself.

I was really shocked when I visited GOG today: the new site design is bad. Real bad. And that's not just personal opinion. It's also very bad from a designer's perspective. At least the desktop version is (can't speak for mobile).

Viewing the website on a (21.5") monitor is just confusing. At first I didn't even see the reviews on the game sites, because they're such a long way down. Everything seems kind of "detached". As if it was all just thrown in. Overall the website has lost it's nice clean look where everything was accessible without having to scroll down several pages. And it doesn't even look better, ie. prettier, at that. Rather it looks pretty ugly... (pardon me)

What I appreciate, for instance, is the dropdown menu for the game edition you wanna buy. But the "buy" button itself is way too huge and due to the position it's in, it obstructs the view on the video and a (possibly already existing?) video toolbar.

Also, I hate the video player pop-ups (on any site), but I guess that's something that's "in" today.

I could go into more detail, but since I'm probably screaming into the void, anyway, I'll just leave it at that for now.

Please share the 'fix' - those HUGE banners are awful. Thanks :)

Please return the news feed to something close to the old format. Before, it was barely big enough to keep up with a busy GOG week. Reducing it to a few postage stamps makes it too much trouble to see what might have changed after a few days away.

Big negative for me:

- reviews: I hate the new layout. Separate space for reviewer name, everything spaced out, lots of useless space while list is set to 5 reviews per page by default I thought reviews were supposed to provide information, not to hide it. Also, very light grey-on-grey lines dividing the reviews need to be more visible because it's hard to tell who wrote the reviews, especially since the intuitive place for a signature is on the bottom (not the case here). Good to have fractional scores though. Still, lots of screen space wasted. Not a fan.

- game list: Tiles only? WHAT THE HELL? Can we please have a list option instead of pics that are not always clear? For example, Hollow Knight soundtrack has the same price as the base game. If I miss the (tiny) subtitle, my only clue that it's not a game is that one has blue background and the other yellow. Very poor readability.

- All this store redesign, and still no option to filter out games we already have? Come on. BTW, while you're at it, I'd also love an option to only show base games (hide expansions/DLCs/soundtracks/other extras available in store).

I also dislike new UI, here are first impressions:
Fist there is a lot of unused space on game page and you need to scroll down to find every single thing the you want to read about a game.
Second when you check some of collections like these 3 collections for 10th anniversary you don't have any indication if you already have some of those games in library.
Third when you open game store all games are showed in a grid and there is no option like before to sort them in a List.
It's clear that this UI was work of some1 who newer buy games on GOG. If you want new UI at least hire some1 of your clients/gamers to design it.

New UI is bad, can we put it to a vote to bring back old GOG UI?
