I dislike it a lot too.

I spent 15 minutes trying to "fix" it, thinking my browser wasn't working properly... When I used a different browser it was still the same and I realized that it is not malfunctioning, but a new and "improved" style...

I miss the elegant older style, I could see all the relevant information about a game right away, now I have to scroll around, and it just doesn't look good on my screen.

Maybe it looks better on larger screens, I use a laptop so I wouldn't know... But the way it is now, it looks horrible on my screen.
I'm on a 2K monitor, so I set the forums to 140% zoom in my browser, but I have to set it to unzoomed in the game pages to see enough on the screen, otherwise the image banner takes up the entire browser window. Kind of annoying.

I simply don't understand why everything has to be laaaarge. Sure, pretty, but uncomfortable as hell to use. And this is a website we are supposed to be using, not a poster that's only function is to be pretty. And this seems to be a universal problem, not just gog. Everything is BIG and PRETTY with LOTS of WASTED space. Pretty to look at but a complete HELL when it comes to actually using it. Unfortunately nowadays looks became more important than usability....... (and don't say "it's for tablets blahblah" because gog is a PC game store, not a tablet game store. Having an optional tablet interface is good, but forcing it on PC users in a PC game store is just wtf category)

Among many other things the one I really hate is how "news" are hidden in the very bottom. And they got HUGE pretty icons too that one has to cycle through to see what's new, instead of just being able to see them all in a list at one glance -_-

Seriously, some things in this site update are great and a step forward like the new review system and the ability to compare editions on the game pages, but other things are two steps backward, like the INSANE amount of wasted space by enlarging everything for some reason, which leads to the site being extremely uncomfortable to use.

fronzelneekburm: Since you're the community manager, I think it's fair to ask you about this: Why exactly does gog feel the need to make the number of games a user owns public every chance they get?

It's been made abundantly clear that some people don't want that when the user profiles were introduced. And that wasn't too long ago... less than 6 months, I think.

Yet, here you are doing it again. Why? Please explain to me the purpose of displaying the number of games owned next to the reviews and how this somehow outweighs privacy concerns.

Linko90: There's a fix in play that will hide your number of games owned if your privacy settings reflect it. E.g. if you have your settings on the most private, your number of games won't be reflected when leaving a review.

As said before, it's teething pains and we're constantly taking feedback and working towards improvements.
I know the updates aren't for us old-school users and I'm glad this is now fixed, but it should have been the default option. "Teething pains" is not an acceptable answer when the result is users' personal information being disseminated without their consent.

I am a loyal customer and want to keep being a loyal customer, but dang if you guys don't make it difficult sometimes. I wish there was some way to assuage my fear that my personal information will be going up in the next update when I am not looking!

Strangely enough, "You may like..." section that has the same width displays properly.

Not a huge fan. Seems cluttered and hard to look at / busy. And everything is "larger" and takes up more of my screen. Almost like it's designed for smartphones (smaller view area looking at larger "tiles"?). I like the review pages, but dislike how much "bigger" everything is - doesn't fit as well and information that used to be right there is now several scrolls away.

Screenshot quality seems better.

Also - that main page - I can't tell if it's not fully loaded or just sort of "empty" down near the tiles at the bottom. And what are those "SHOW MORE" buttons?

Finally - NEWS! Where'd you go? I see a button, I see arrows - I get no result! Hopefully this is just growing pain stuff. The sale area is still fairly easy to navigate (though a lot of the games are hidden behind Critics Lists). I just hope the "normal" day to day stuff becomes more so after the sale is over.

One last thought - NEWS! I want to see it front and center damnit! ;)

After already having had a look at the game page redesign, let's talk about the front page.

I think it's necessary to address the elephant in the room here first: I suppose someone put a lot of time into the redesigns in general and maybe even effort. Having your artistic baby shat on in public, after you've been looking forward to unleash it onto your customers, is not a great feeling. I get that. With that and the matter of personal insults in mind, it is important to note that I like this place, I want it to succeed for at least another ten years and in my opinion none of you guys are stupid.

The redesign, on the other hand, clearly is, though.

But lets have a look at it and I'll try not to rant, but instead point out the problems, so maybe we can work on this mess together.

So the point of the whole thing is to sell games. You want those sales, I want to know what to buy. We're kinda on the same page here. Now you have this button, titled "Store", where all of those juicy games are listed. That's what a store is, really, and I don't know about you, but from a consumer standpoint that actually works out rather well. Now the front page can be used for things that are not well reflected in the store: sales and newcommers. Up until now this actually worked out quite well. Just pasting some game on the front page for no discernable reason is obviously utter nonsense, but so far that had been kept to a tolerable minimum. In addition you had this nice box, that cycled through current sales (with an indicator of how much time was left - nice job on that one!) and the news blog (that didn't just consist of headlines, but also indicated a short blurb about what's going on) wasn't far off, either. I never understood, why you had this borderline useless clutter in there, but the important info was basically right there. That was quite useable, well done there!

To clarify: that is the info I need. Show me what's new and what is changed. Everything else is for the store.

What we have now, long story short, is the specials box gone (bit benefit of doubt here, since the anniversary sale is ongoing and it might make its return after that - though I have no idea where you want to put it) and the news dead last at the bottom. Why?

While we're here, let's talk about curated collections. They seem to be somewhat fixed at the moment, so we can all have a look at the same thing:

Slitherine's Strategies
Sword or Sorcery
Activision's Evergreens
Time for Tycoons
Jump Around
Play with Friends
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Thinking is Hard (as is biting one's tongue, by the way)

Edit: you know what, I'm not even trying to repair the broken tags, because it really fits into the whole discussion, doesn't it.

These all link to filtered store pages with no further explanation, so I'm guessing here:
Multiplayer, 2x developer. 3x genre that's covered by tags, 2x genre that's not covered well by tags

Meaning: if you had your tags in order, we could just go to the store, filter for e.g. "puzzle" and get pretty much the same result. With no completely wasted space on the front page.
Also while curated collections sort of make sense on Steam, because frankly any old drivel gets onto their shelves, may I remind you that your entire store is already curated to begin with, so what's the bloody point?

As I'm writing this, a wild store overhaul appeared, so let's have a look.
First of all: holy wasted horizontal space!
More to the point of functionality: if I resize the window to ~50%, the filter sidebar collapses and suddenly I get an acceptable amount of games shown. Sort of good. However, if I go back to the original size, the filters don't reappear. This feels incredibly inconsistent.
Next, filtering for discounted works fine, selecting the On Sale tab however kills my selected filters. This makes it a tad useless. Also, I know this is an oversight and it's not intended, but since operating system is a filter this does have an air of slap in the face. On top of all that: incredibly inconsistent.
Also, can we have text for the game titles? There are several cases (think games with different editions) where the game cover isn't exactly distinctive and the title in written form would massively help.

Lastly, I've written a post in the anniversary thread in which I tried to be positive and shine a light on some of the awesome things you guys have consistently done in the last decade. I mentioned worrying trends in the last paragraph. Far be it from me to tell you what Gog supposedly stands for, but you have an Upcomming (games that aren't out yet) tab in your store, and if that's not demonstrably embracing pre-order culture, I don't know what is.

I would have liked to point out something positive like I did with the overhauled reviews on the game pages, but I got nothing this time.

So yeah, I hope I could adequatly convey criticism that at least carries somewhat of a productive flavour in illuminating some of the problems. If I may point out, another way not to have numerous rants in this topic is to turn them into a dialog. All the "why"s I've used in this topic as well as in the other thread don't have to be purely rhetorical.

Why not - and I am sincerely not taking the piss here - have a news article where you talk about the thought behind the changes, what we as customers get out of it, that sort of stuff. We've been treated to A LOT of "Try Galaxy! Have you tried Galaxy yet? Here, let me put Galaxy in your game installers!" because so many users were allegedly incredibly confused about the "is there a client like steam?" subject.

Looks to me like a decent chunk of your long time customers are pretty confused about these design changes right now, so I'm looking forward to it.

Can confirm that.
Well, in general I like new design and new review system. But I encountered a few serious problems:

1. On the main page there is news in the bottom of the page. And only 3 of them - the last ones. It makes harder to tracks news on GOG.

2. On the games section there is a "Games for you" and "Popular/New/Indev" from menu. Where is "Sales'? And finding that the right option has a list of options in menu wasn't very clear.

3. Most BIG problem is DLC in game page. For example, lets take a look on Stellaris page: https://www.gog.com/game/stellaris

Everything is fine, on the right of system requirements there is a list of all DLC - available and owned. Everything is great, but lets change edition of the game to Nova or Galaxy (by the way, I really liked that edition can be selected on the same game page!) - and all DLC list is gone! If i need to buy them - i need to change edition type back to Standart or use search.

Other than that - I like this new design! And choosing/comparing different editions of the same game is now VERY
comfortably easy! :)

It might be that I need to get used to it, but, truth be told, right now I just don't have the slightest idea of what's happening in there : big pics for games all over the place and no clear sense whatsoever of what is what unless you have the biggest screen in the world.
It's a giant scrolling machine.

Pond86: If they would use the full width of the page, they could cut down fair few number of pages.

Also what is it with GOG and videos now. Every other thing seems to be videos. I dont want to see a video for the game when I hover over! All I want is a screenshots to cycle through.
My biggest issue with almost any video for a game is that they seem to be mostly taken from cutscenes from a game, and not actual gameplay. Not everyone does it, but a lot do.
Just adding my feedback on the new style game pages:

Positives:
- Overall appearance is nice and clean (but see negatives below).
- Bigger, clearer screenshots and videos.
- Clearer system requirements.
- Much better review filtering system.

Negatives:
- If I launch a video above the game title, it has no sound or controls and part of the video is covered by the oversized price label.
- If the game doesn't have an initial video the whole screen is filled by the top image, which can look very bland (see examples below - that's my whole screen at 1440x900 resolution).
- Far too much empty space, which results in very little information in each screen and lots of scrolling to see it all (up to 6-7 clicks on the side scrolling bar to reach the bottom of a page).

It feels like the pages have been designed for much higher resolutions than the ones I currently have (1440x900 and 1366x768). How do the pages appear to people with higher (or lower) resolutions?
