The pizza we're used to today (with tomato and cheese) already existed in Italy in the 18th or early 19th century and wasn't introduced to the US until the late 19th century.

Randalator: The pizza we're used to today (with tomato and cheese) already existed in Italy in the 18th or early 19th century and wasn't introduced to the US until the late 19th century.
The Margherita was actually one of the first regular recipes used in naples (even allegedly during the aformentioned famine) though the name didnt appear until much later.
