TARFU: The Many sings to us! Silence the discord!

tinyE: Yeah, it's a great game. Here's your gun. BTW, it breaks every FIVE SECONDS!

OH and I know you are on a ship with no way on or off, but that wont stop baddies from just teleporting in! :P
It IS a great game. But OK, you have a point about the crappy quality of firearms.

I guess it's partly a balancing measure, to increase the importance of the maintenance skill, and partly just meant to make the game more challenging, and force you to manage your resources. It's more of a Survival Horror game, rather than a traditional FPS.

I think I once read a theory that maybe Shodan, as well as the presence of "the Many" causes all kinds of mechanical and electronic devices to fail. Sometimes you just have to go back to basics, and whack a bitch with your trusty old wrench, instead of relying on all that fancy high-tech junk.

On topic: I agree that the way they've set up the unlock levels for the "free" games is kinda fishy. They know damn well that most games sell for $xx.99. Expecting you to buy another game, just because of that 1 cent difference is pretty lame and disrespectful towards the customers.

( And no, I'm not really upset about it -- just an objective observation. I already own all three of the reward games, so it doesn't bother me much. Actually, that's another thing which could use work, since the rewards are mostly useless to people who previously bought those games. Not sure how they could improve that in future sales. )

I've seen some games before on discount (not actively looking now) where it totals came to like 2.74, or 1.29.

Although if they silently added 1 cent to each game you bought (for qualifying), it would deal with games that were just a penny under...
Well you know the thing that sucks about mathematics?
They're precise! Life can be a bitch sometimes!
Well see now it is pretty simple. $4.99 is not $5. It's hard to work out. Even American schools can teach that correctly.
Buys game for 4,99$, gets irritated that 4,99$ does not equal 5,00$

If that bothers you, you'll better never play NOX or NEO Scavenger.

tinyE: What really gets me is it's in the future. Nice to see shit breaks just as easily 200 years from now as it does today. :P
Ever seen Star Trek? Shit breaks all the time there, so the "engineer characters" get a little screen time too.

Maydawn: Yup I didn't mean it wasn't obvious, just that it doesn't feel "right" selling a game for 4.99 instead of rounding it up to 5 so people can enjoy the "free" game.
I don't often see people complaining GOG games are too cheap. :D

Joking of course, I get your complaint. I guess I don't care as I had those "free" games already, and I've already used probably 100€ to this sale (which surprises me, as I always think I have so many GOG games already that it is quite hard to find anything interesting to buy).

Maydawn: ... Some people would justifiably be really upset about it.
Justifiably? I would rather say arguably.

Some people are always upset about something and the free gift is just exactly this: a free gift. No obligations to do anything else should come out of it for GOG. So GOG is fine whatever it does here. Being upset is just too much feeling entitled. This is a rather unfortunate fashion. What about buying System Shock 2 for a change?

But the small difference really is a bit badly chosen. GOG should either lower the limit to $4.5 or higher it to $5.5 - whichever way they prefer. I won't be angry with them.

Sometimes I think, the engineers just break shit all the time so they can be seen as miracle workers. :)

Well, there are a couple of reasons those prices [x.91 - x.99] are forbidden by law in some countries. It's just business practice towards customers. As I've said, I don't care about the free gift, but some might be upset.

I guess it mostly depends what you're used to. In my country I always thought it was because we don't actually have 0.01 or 0.05 coins. The lowest one is 0.1. But later found out it's mostly because of exploits in sales. For example, you can't give a free item on purchase for 1k, if no items actually cost 1k. If all of your items cost 999, you'd probably be given a very high fine.

budejovice: Having been around since 2008, aren't you somewhat pleased to see a bit of precision from GOG every now and then? :)
Haha, gold!

tinyE: The game sucks.
Kill the blasphemer!
Get him!
4.99 < 5

I dunno, I'm engineer.
