I hate DRM, but I find it OK if it's not too bad, like Steam. Steam is relatively liberal, unlike EA's total flop SecuROM and the monstrosity that is Starforce. I bought Fallout 3 (the Special Edition, with the PIPBoy watch and a lunchbox...go figure) off Amazon, and the DRM wasn't as bad as I expected. The only users I can think of that have it better are Steam users. What say you, Steamers?

All this DRM shit makes me want to just buy an XBOX360, and sticking to old computer games for my PC.

I've not had any problems with DRM in Fallout 3. I know its' there, but its not intrusive like StarForce or any of that stuff. I agree though, that STEAM is the way to go (or better yet, none at all like GOG!)

I prefer the GOG method. I Like steam; but I"m glad there are competing services/products out there. It seems that there is this prevailing thought to have everything shoved in to steam on many forums... Of course if there is no competition there is no need to get better, right?
So we'll see how this whole "Digital Distribution" thing evolves in the next five years...

never had a problem with any copy protection, old or new.
heck, there were people that couldnt use the lenslok correctly with elite. i had no problems at all. glad i didnt listen to their whining in magazines of the time saying that you wouldnt be able to read the codes properly.

You don't like being locked down by DRM, so you switch to a completely closed platform. :P
Nah, irony aside, I totally get where you're coming from. It's annoying to be arbitrarily treated like a criminal. Like the criminals who bypass the DRM anyway. Not that some companies aren't just using piracy as an excuse to limit installs for legitimate consumers.
When I purchase FA3, I'm going to get it off of Steam. At least they're reasonable with their DRM.

It's not completely closed, look at the community games and etc. there are some things you can do. Although very limited.

Yeah as I've mentioned earlier in the thread I've been pretty lucky with copy protection as well.
It doesn't stop me from getting games I REALLY want, but nowadays if the DRM is bad I go with a digital copy via D2D or Steam.
Case in point: I bought Left 4 Dead directly from Steam so that Valve would get the money, not EA.

regarding original question: I am from Czech Republic, and our localized version have changed protection (i am not sure, but looks like there isn't any), I was thinking about buying it on steam, but vault-boy and sandwitch box was just so cute :-D
regarding DRM in few last posts i had read - i am going to stick with digital download. Now i am buying about 2-5 games per month, most of them on steam or inpulse, older on GOG, just in special cases (collector editions) i am using shops. In digital download is future, and mainly with DD i am supporting developers of those games, not some -place any word rude enought- managers which just makes games worse and worse (F3 case, worst buy in my life).

I got the GFW version of Fallout 3 and it is working fine for me. Yea, I'd rather not have DRM but I haven't noticed any slowdowns. It is kinda annoying that I have to be logged into XBL to use autosave or load any games...I'm sure there is a way around this I'm just too lazy to figure it out.
And for some annoying reason quicksave quit working. I really need to get on that because I'm a compulsive quicksaver.
