+1 for the release of the Blood source! Let's see what happens!

danyearight: If that is a single core Pentium 4 at 2.5ghz and orginal DDR ram then it would be too weak to play at a acceptable framerate at 1280x1024. I am on a Phenom II X4 965 @3.8ghz.
My old Athlon XP 3000+ o/c and near 400mhz 1.5gb DDR ram and 7600GT struggled with redneck rampage at anything over 800X600 resolution.

Uuuugh - Well I kinda need to get a new rig anyway. I'll just wait until Christmas and see if I can get a deal on something haha.

Because a quad-core is totally a reasonable expectation to play a mid-90s FPS at a decent resolution. :P
From a certain point of view, it actually is. Those games weren't designed for those resolutions. If there was any optimisation, it would have been done with the expectation of a 320x240 res on hardware of the time, maybe a little in the future. Sometimes the techniques used to create the world don't scale well to a higher resolution.
The other funny thing is that, because of the resolution of the textures and the relative crudity of the construction techniques... they often actually don't look all that much better at a higher resolution.

I'm not even think that the source code would given away. But I like what is given by GOG . It runs pretty well and with the Launcher from Tecman it is the best solution I could imagine. Very nice, a big thank to GOG and a not even less thank to Tecman for be willing to release his hard work to create a Launcher for Blood. This will be the best solution out there. :)

Thats kind of what I was thinking. I mean my pc isn't a hoss but it runs Fallout 3 just fine for god's sake! I mean I cant believe Blood would be choppy if Oblivion and Fallout run fine.
Fallout 3 is rendering 3D polygon scenes with the aid of advanced 3D acceleration cards. Blood is throwing raw pixels into the video-buffer via the CPU.
.Every time you increase the screen size, you're significantly increasing the amount of work Blood has to do (and if my experience with Duke's Build engine is anything to go by, not actually getting a decent visual pay-off for it, either)/

True true. I keep forgetting that dosbox is emulating the equivalent of a seperate system's video capability. Thats why we need the source released noooowwww.
Mod tools and source code for blood 2 can be found in this thread:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/blood_series/blood_2_mods_mod_tools_amp_amp_source_code
I just mentioned this in another thread but I think this would be a more appropriate place for it...
Has there been any sort of real effort put behind asking for Blood's source to be released? I mean other than just hoping for it? Blood, as a property, has changed hands so many times it could very well be possible that Atari isn't even aware that the game's source hasn't been released. Of course, I may very well be a fool. But since we have this forum I think we could put it to good use. Couldn't we use this place as a springboard for some sort of concerted effort for source release? I'm not sure what we could do. But something would be better than nothing. Has there even been an attempt to contact Atari on this issue?

There are other, much older, Blood communities out there. And yes, they have tried and tried and tried to contact and negotiate the source release, but the closest they've gotten is finding someone that has the source but doesn't feel like getting sued.

Hmmmm - Still. I think that with the re-release of Blood a new base of fans is being created. Even if its just a few at a time. Surely if we used this new platform we could try, as a much larger and united group, to bring about some action on this. I mean I would like to know how much they think a 13 year old DOS based source code is actually worth. I'd be willing to chip in and buy it. I can't imagine it would be worth a staggering amount.
