I guess this is probably the best time to bring this up, Blood hasn't been officially sold for quite some time. Basically, source code. We wants it. It'll likely increase sales of the game and liven up the community quite a bit.
Atari/Infogrames are next to impossible to contact. It would be awesome if someone from GOG could put forward the question. I happen to know the source code does exist, a former Monolith employee, Matt Saettler has it and he has said that he would be happy to hand it over if all the rights issues were sorted out. Several coders have expressed interest in developing a source port.
Advantages would be things like native ports for multiple platforms (linux, macos, win32) and added features like OpenGL rendering and TCP/IP multiplayer. Graphical enhancement packs would also be a possibility.
I think everyone would love to see this happen!
yeah! it would be awesome!

Bumping this. There is no good reason for the source to die, this is too good of a game, and the time is right. Make the call, GoG!! It can only increase your sales!
I don't know if this is a petition kind of thread but if so, here's my vote :
+1 :^)
Actually i think people from 3D Realms' forums tried to contact Monolith and they said that they don't have the source any more or something. You might want to search 3D Realms' forums, it has been mentioned many times there since the release of the Build engine's source.

They know as much as we do. Basically what Swiss CM mentioned is all there is so far. Matt Saettler has the source code, but he won't release it until there whole rights thing is cleared, and that seems to depend on Atari. Right? I mean, Gog got the Blood release deal with Atarì, right? So they must own the rights to it. So it's up to them I suppose.
+1, good timing!
It would be very awesome if gog could get a source code release with their Atari catalog release, and include the source in the Blood download. : )
Yes please. Make it so Monolith/Atari/ whoever else.
Gogo GoG, you can do it. Now is the time.
It would be very awesome to play it with opengl. So please give us the source code.
+1
PLXXX release it!
You also have to understand that the source code is likely to contain third party source code such as the Smacker tools or other things like sound engines which cannot be released without a permission. If this was the case, even if Atari approves of the release, someone who knows the source code (ie. someone from Monolith, or Saettler) would have to go and clean the source from such things. This would also mean the source would have to be rewritten to link to Smacker libraries instead of including some third party source code inside the release.
This whole ordeal would definitely be worth it all to prolong the lifespan of Blood and give the game the legacy it deserves.
Happen whatever may, I'm supporting the cause to help the Blood community to stay alive and getting the source code released would probably be one of the best things ever happen to it.
I sort of agree with this. In an ideal world, yes the source for Blood would be nice. However, there are two major problems.
Putting a pig in an airplane or hitting it very hard may not count. In addition an altered pig that can fly on its own may not count since its definition of 'pig' will be debatable. This is the lesser issue, however.
The main obstacle is not even the feasibility, but rather the consequences of freezing the Earth below the crust. Though we get heat from the sun, the heat from within the earth is also important. So getting the Blood source released would end our planet's ability to support life.
Of course Atari might die and have it's rights sold to a more understanding company, but that is a gamble. Just getting Atari to fail to that extent is more of a luck thing anyway.
I just do not see any way this can be done, short of hoping Atari goes belly up or bought out and we get lucky with the aftermath.
+1 for the source
If the gog guys in some way could make this possible I would buy every game in your catalogue and all future ones to. That's a promise :)
I would also start making replacment models for the game right away.
