Vitek: Who would guess the sign was a recruitment site, not the building next to it.
Dammit! That explains why I couldn't get more than one unit out of that damn building no matter how many times I walked in with my wallet open.

Halflings, Day 30

Whew, that was a close one. Almost lost Mr. Dynamite and his variety of skills.

Carry On, Turn 30

Screw this game and rules that I don't know about biting me in the ass. An empty watch tower was defended by an adjacent stack of independents. Naturally, it was a player battle, despite one player being completely absent, so I don't even get the option to see that the independents are going to jump in on the enemy side.

If a plan blows up in my face, fine. If I play poorly, fine. If I get outplayed, fine. If rules that aren't known and aren't marked anywhere are what kills me? FTS.

I'll play out the two that I've already taken turns in, and I won't throw either, but I don't think multiplayer of the AoW games versus humans is for me.

Shit, that sucks. Replay the turn after you've cooled off. You're allowed a mulligan or two while you learn the specifics of this game.

With regard to neutrals joining a battle... it's a bit of a guessing game sometimes since you don't know the relationship between the neutral and your opponent.

You've already outlasted Catermune!
Come on, Bookwyrm, we all had to go through something similar. Well I had, I don't suppose mimo had too. :-)
Yeah, it totally sucks, this game can be really mean sometimes and there is a lot of things that aren't clear but don't make hasty decisiions right after something happens.
Shit happens. Don't allow the game to win over you.

Well at least you didn't screw up an entire invasion of 48 units by putting your best stack next to a tower, allowing an attack on the tower to single out the one stack, while already knowing the rules. You at least can learn to play better but there is no hope for me

belated log from Necking, Day 31

We juggle stuff around to maintain our current dominions.
To be clear: I'm not quitting this game, and I'm not going to worry about redoing the turn or anything. I lost a scout to this crap. It was a very useful scout, but still a scout. I just hate playing a strategy game effectively blind.

I do have some post game commentary/questions on what I've seen you guys do in this map, and how to deal with certain things.
Halflings, Day 31

Twiddling my thumbs.

Carry On, Day 31

What. The. Hell. Ass. Balls.

I attack a magic vault. Apparently magic vaults (or this one, at least) can throw around fire ball type spells. One of my units is critically injured by the first salvo, so I have it flee combat instead of staying and dying. I lose some cannon fodder in the process of winning, whatever.

The battle ends, and guess what? The unit that I watched safely exit the battle is just gone. I lost the ^%##$^ unit anyway. Probably just as well I had my critically injured hero stick it out to the end.

FTS and GFG. -.-

(and no, I'm not quitting. I'll play out this stupid farce to the bitter end)

Only thing that comes to mind is the 'burning' status effect, but i could swear when I last retreated a 1 HP, 2-rounds remaining burning troop it survived.

I've been wondering if it was that, or whether units have a chance to disband whenever they retreat from combat.

The unit might have been burning when it fled; I didn't pay close attention because there were a bunch of fire throwing enemy units and my guy was at like 2 hp or so. I was under the impression that burning is removed when the unit is out of combat, so I figured it shouldn't be a problem.
Gabby, Day 31

I don't know, something.

Turn sent.

@Bookwyrm; Yeah, I'd guess it was burning.
And yeah, a lot of magical vaults and some dungeons (dragon caves i.e.) are like magic nodes guarded by some spells. Dumb thing is that you can't tell if it will be the case before you enter it. There is no excuse here, it just sucks. You enter some dungeon confident of easy victory and the battle stars with earthquake. Peachy.
Um, so I cast dispel magic on the Archon hero and he just *died*, which was something of a shock. This is because without Free Movement he couldn't survive on the mountain. I will redo the turn and not cast Dispel Magic this time , because it seems unfair. But in future Vitek should be careful about ending his turn on terrain that will instantly kill his hero if an enchantment is dispelled. From next turn on that Free Movement spell is fair game!

I don't think it would have been sportsmanlike to kill Vitek's hero like that when we'd both forgotten what happens when a Free Movement spell is dispelled.

Really?
Bah, I keep it there on purpose, to keep him safe from you.
Seems like it wasn't good idea. :-)
Day 32, Necking
