Technically you can legally play a demo version. This game was a shareware, wasn't it? So there might be a demo still somewhere with the 1st episode.

Just because something is shareware doesn't mean you can do whatever you want with it. There was a Java port of Doom that was packaged with the shareware game data which got C&Ded because it did not respect the terms of the license for redistributing shareware Doom...

Yes, indeed, "play through your browser" games are *not to be confused* with the actual games & code themselves! Not the same thing at all--if you want to actually mod the game, add textures, experiment with the code/drivers, etc.--you want to buy the *game itself*--the "play though browser" stuff is strictly for n00bs/amateurs who wouldn't know the *real* game if it walked up and sat on them...;) Buy the game--just buy it--there's no earthly excuse not to...;)
