I have a "wide screen" LCD monitor and despite playing around with the settings using the graphic mode setup tool I can not seem to figure out how to maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio while in full screen. I am not even sure I know how to enlarge my window as a plan B.

Can anyone please provide the proper setting to maintain aspect ratio and play in either a full screen mode or a maximized window?

Regards
Having the same issues.

Have tried the setting for 'maintain aspect ratio' to no avail, and when in windowed mode, I don't seam to be able to get it out of default resolution, despite adjusting the 'windowed resolution'

I must be doing something wrong, but cant work out what.

any help appreciated.
Have you checked your graphics card driver for such a setting?
Yes, I used to have a NVIDIA card, which did have such a setting (cant remember the name), sadly I'm now on an ATI card, and the latest card doesn't let you change that setting (its greyed out). I've done a little playing and a google or two, but all advise is related to very old drivers, so its little use :(
I switch the aspect ratio on my monitor to get it to a proper 4:3 screen. See if you have a setting in your monitor's menu that will let you do that.
Good idea, however sadly not, its a laptop, and the screen doesn't have separate controls
There's a post here that might help.
Thanks for the link, both look helpful.

I'll have a play around tonight and report back.

Cheers,

Tim
Change aspectratio = true in the .conf file.
If all else fails, check your monitor. Both your video card and monitor should have overrides for "pillarbox" behaviour when displaying non-widescreen resolutions.
Just a quick one to say the link Nedrix posted was spot on. followed those instructions and its now exactly right.

Thank you, now to try and get it working with an Xbox controller :)
Thanks for the help. My problem is solved. Summary

"After installing, open the DOSbox config <install dir>\dosbox<game name>.conf, find the line fullresolution=original and change it to your screen's native resolution (e.g. 1024x600 or 1920x1200). Save.
If you're running XP, that's enough to fix it (how easy was that!). If you're running Vista, you'll also need to launch the 'Graphic mode setup' from the GOG start menu program group."

I tried other modes. Some work with this fix, some don't. OpenGL for me seems to work the best.

You're kinda circumventing the real problem.

Do you use an nvidia GFX card?
Go to the nvidia control panel. Go to Adjust desktop size and position. Set scaling mode to aspect ratio. Set "Perform scaling on" to "GPU". Check the override button below.

Do you use ATI?
Go to Catalyst Control Center. Go to My Digital Flatpanels. Go to properties. Under Image scaling check Enable GPU scaling. Make sure aspect ratio is ticked on.

This way games should always display in their native aspect ratio regardless of your monitor settings.

If you dont see the options you probably use outdated drivers. Update.
Hatman,

Unfortunately your solution would not have worked for me. I have an ATI card. For some reason after clicking on Enable GPU scaling the sub-options are greyed out. This was actually the first thing I tried.

I read another post where someone said the same thing, this option was greyed out for them as well.

I think it depends on the connector you use. Do you use a VGA, DVI or HDMI cable? It does work with DVI. HDMI is the worst and actually has a different menu on nvidia cards. It could be that for VGA adapters that part isn't supported.

PS: Just found this on some ATI FAQ:

In order to take advantage of GPU Scaling:
A digital connection must be used between the graphics card and output display device:
A DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort connection is required
A VGA connection is not supported

Probably the same for nvidia.
