Not played the original, had I realized it had been based of a partially similar sort of engine used in Bards Tale I'd have played it long ago.

Cheers GOG & inXile!

The engine is actually really impressive. It uses the text like combat type like in Bard's Tale, but you can also move your guys around on the map like the Ultimas (though this is mostly invisible unless you look)
Other backers, yay!

Game number 276 or something on my game backlog. Anyone selling time so I can play all of em during my lifetime?
If you're new to the game, remember to read EVERYTHING that comes up, even if you miss something you just just scroll up, clues are everywhere. At game start delete all the pre-made characters and make your own, and keep rolling until you get 17 or 18 in IQ (Intelligence) (very important), as for skills I would advise every character having 2 points in Pistol and SMG, and 1 point in Medic and Swim, also try to get a character with picklock and climb. And don't be ashamed to use a walkthrough if you want/need to, game is good but it's clunky and obtuse to the point of insanity, it might be called an RPG but it plays like the most evil adventure game ever.

Thanks for the startup guide! I was about to play it!

Nice helpful tips. Thanks from a complete Wasteland newb.
So, the new release on gog... actually has the paragraphs in-game is voiceovers? How's that work out?

Anyway, this and Dragon Wars have aged quite well. Bard's Tale is a bit grindy and archaic for my taste, but... I honestly think Wasteland outdoes Fallout in some areas.

Whenever the game says "read paragraph X" there is now a little book icon next to it. If you click the icon, a popup window appears with the paragraph text in it, and a voiceover is played.

Some of the texts are missing. I noticed this for paragraph 6 in the root cellar at the Agricultural Center, and someone noticed another somewhere else.

Evil in a good way? :)

Well maybe not evil, but it just doesn't lay out anything obviously. Stuff like you can't just descend into a cave, you need to Use a Rope on the cave entrance, or use Perception skill on something that looks interesting to find out more. Sometimes it's obvious but it can annoying. This walkthrough is pretty good if you ever get stuck:

And even if you don't want to use a walkthrough at all, I still suggest you take a look at the part at the beginning for creating your party at the start.

Thanks for the reply and advice :).

I don't mind evil in a good way. I never played the original, but I am looking forward to playing this and WL2. My only issue with the original WL is the UI. It looks a LITTLE clunky. I will have to look at some YouTube videos to make sure.

The UI IS clunky, but yeah don't use the mouse it has a tendency to lock up the game, just use keyboard commands (http://www.allgame.com/game.php?id=2782&tab=controls) and hold ESC in a safe area to make time pass faster so you can heal. You can bring up your characters by just pressing 1, 2, 3, 4 and then SPACE again to access their inventory
