cielaqu: In BG2 there were some absurdly high difficulty spikes. Like battle with Lich. He was unbeatable, unless you fought him with high level party with best possible equipment.
Kangaxx is easy. Just get two scrolls of protection from undead (one for each phase) and he won't be able to hit you with anything.

Black_Hart: 3. BG2 did, but it was never absurd like the Troll-king fight in Kingmaker.
4. Wrong. The fact that most crpgs are combat heavy is one thing. Whether the "combat-heaviness" is balanced by a strong story, non-combat events and non-combat quests is completely another thing. Icewind, for example, was combat heavy but the combat was never a slog - it was fast-paced and exciting.

I remember that fight. He was tough, but I just summoned creatures at him right at the start and he threw his overkill spells on them and later did a swift counter. And after the fight he didn't get up with full health like the troll king in Kingmaker.

Yeah I know about char development. I've spent a few days reading about that before I started the campaign in Kingmaker. But it all boils down to one simple question: "Is the game fun?". Even if I had a hard fight in BG, I was glued to the screen all the time While Kingmaker just became tedious.

Yes, it is fun. It doesn't have as pronounced main quest line as Baldur's Gate, use different approach - more smaller maps instead fewer but larger, could use some arguing between characters of oposite alignment, but the main plot and side quest are fun and entertaining with some sudden plot twists.

But,since it's Rogue Trader's forum, RT is great.
