First, the silver mie is unplayable and has killed my ability to play/see this game.
Two, what torch? I see only lights on the wall. Nothing in inventory and no, well anything. it is the beginning of the game and all.
Three, if the solution is to complex to follow, than this game is a waste of money and I have to recommend no one buy it in this sad condition.

Have you tried my solution?
You only need to copy a few files into the game folder.

I finished the game with my solution last week.
You dont need a torch in the silvermines.
Yes there are corners later where you cant see anything without a torch or the gangrel eye (an offhand item thats similiar to a torch), but that is a design choice made my the developer.

With my solution the game is bright enough to play without a torch and the torch works as intended, but without my solution the torch lights up nothing and the game is too dark and you cant change the brightness in the options menu.

My solution:

ProjectDT88: I had the same problem, and it took a while, but I figured it out with the help of another thread. You need to get Microsoft's Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.6 (ACT) once installed follow the following steps

1.) Run Compatibility Administrator (32-bit)

2.) In the side panel, click on the "New Database(1) [Untitled_1]" then On the toolbar choose Fix

3.) Fill in the following information then press next:
Name of the program to be fixed:
"Vampire the Masquerade - Redemption"

Name of the vendor for this program:
"White Wolf Studio"

Program file location:
Browse to your install directory and choose Vampire.exe

4.) Skip Compatibility Modes and press Next

5.) On Compatibility Fixes choose DxPrimaryEmulator, make sure it is checked and highlighted and press the button Parameters. Where it says Command Line, enter "-DisableMaxWindowedMode" Choose okay, and if it says -DisableMaxWindowedMode in the Command Line Column, congrats, you did it right.

6.) Press Test Run. If you can now adjust the brightness then the game is fixed. You only need to finalize the changes.

7.) Quit the game and return to ACT, you can either press Next or you can add NoGDIHWAcceleration. I find it made the game play a lot easier. If you add it, repeat step 6 to make sure it works.

8.) Ignore the next page and press Finish, you are not done though.

9.) Go to File>Install.

Once installed the fix will always work with the game. You are now done

I went through the steps because the original links you to look to a guide that no longer exists. I hope this helps someone.
Thank you! This is the solution, people. I did get an error message from Windows on the first install but just had to install latest version. You ONLY need the compatibility manager, not the whole thing and just follow the same instructions.

In a later post there was mention of a program called "dgVoodoo" that I wouldn't recommend as my virus protection flagged a Trojan.

Thank you again!

A Virus? lol.
There are so many gog games where players here in the forums recommend to use dgvoodoo.

Here a thread abount dgvoodo being a virus
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi37Nms9JrhAhVKKewKHdwhAw4QFjAAegQIBRAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gog.com%2Fforum%2Fblood_series%2Fconcerns_about_dgvoodoo_2_for_blood_2&usg=AOvVaw2aHj_UjfeYtnhHJ68iLaN2

google "dgvoodo virus" or "dgvoodo trojan" and you will see everywhere its just a false positive.

Thank you, as you can see, I merely said, "my virus protection flagged a Trojan". I'm not a programmer/developer. I just want to get the game working and play. That link to the forum discussion was really informative and I'm glad to hear of false positives.

Zanji123: hm... i tried everything and nope didn't work for me so i had to use the torch in the first dungeon to stumple around.

DecTher: I tried ProjectDT8's Solution and it worked for me.
But there was one problem.
Everytime i quit the game the game will freeze and i have to press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to open the taskmanager.

I found a better solution.
Download this.
http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2_55_4_1.zip
Open the Zip File and extract the following files in to your VtM: Redemption folder.
D3D8.dll
D3Dlmm.dll
DDraw.dll
dgVoodoo.conf
dgVoodooCpl.exe

Don't create a MS folder. All 5 Files have to be in the same folder where your Vampire.exe is located.

Start the game and you should see a dgVoodoo Logo in the lower right corner of the main menu.
Go to Options -> Display and try to change the brightness.
If your display brightness goes up and down then it works.
Exit the game.

Start dgVoodooCpl.exe and press the "DirectX" Button.
uncheck "dgVoodoo Watermark" in the lower right corner and then press ok.

You can now play.

If you play older games with directx 7 and older and you have problems then always try dgVoodoo.
I use it in a lot of older games.
Mostly to get more fps.
Just to add that using dgVoodoo fixed in my case that annoying problem when the two intro videos would stutter like crazy.
Hi Does this file work on Steam?

Also, Is it still running? I tried to extract it, but it was password protected.

Thanks!

This worked perfectly for me!
Have tried going to the dgVoodoo site, but not only am I constantly getting a "dangerous site" warning, when I do go there using Norton's isolation mode - and without! - I get a 404 error! :(

Try another browser (e.g. MS Edge) that does not have the auto-block activated. That, or make the site an exception so that the auto-block is bypassed. There is noting wrong with the files (or the site), Google/Norton just don't like them.
