Hi,
In GOG v1.00 the multiplayer game didn't work at all if the GOG Galaxy client wasn't present or signed in. Game was using LAN logic all the time (so yes, in theory we could introduce feature in future where user could choose between online games or LAN games).
In GOG v1.01 above issue is fixed and the multiplayer games works now with Steam and Humble builds. GOG Galaxy client isn't needed for multiplayer games, it's only used to unlock achievements (which also works without GOG Galaxy client).
Unfortunately there is another bug (the infinite REFRESHING... bug) which we are working on at the moment. This issue has been present past days in Steam builds since Steam users got the v1.01 patch earlier than GOG users. When we figured out that there is another bug, the v1.01 patch was already on the way for the GOG users.
Basically our server which handles the connections between Steam and GOG and Humble builds, is taking heavy traffic at the moment and we are fixing it.
You can find more details here:

Hopefully we can resolve this issue in next 24h - 48h.
