I'm referring to this sticky:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/common_issues_and_possible_solutions_read_before_posting

As stated there, resolutions other than 16:9 aren't support. But that's a false assumption because resolutions other than 16:9 ARE supported but not there correct aspect ratio!

Just for correcting that. ^^

My question is: Will this issue (no correct aspect ratio for 5:4- and 4:3-resolution) really be patched in the future or is this just an assumption of gog's mods?

I'm asking because I'm rather irritated by the lacking support of the correct aspect ratio and so are others as you look through here and other communities.
(The Witcher 2 is a PC GAME and not a stupid console game!)

I'm thankful for any clearifying comment on that topic. Cheers.

bump...

Just purchased this PC game because I liked The Witcher 1 alot.
Then I found out this game is more likely made for console and requires 16:9...
But I hate 16:9 on a PC monitor and therefore my monitor is 4:3... like most of PC users.

So why the hell is there no option to play in 4:3 aspect ratio ? You can play with 4:3 resolution but using letterbow cutting half of the screen on both top and bottom... and ridiculously small font size... Sad.

I hope a patch will fix that, and I would like them to announce it quick, because I don't feel like playing this game til the end with half of the screen cut if they release a fix 3 days after...

16:9 is the most popular according to the latest Steam survey. 16:10 is right behind that. Honestly 4:3 monitors haven't even been commonly sold in 5+ years, it's old technology.

That said I am not disagreeing with you that they should support it, just your assertion that 4:3 is the majority. It is by far not the majority, and pretty outdated. Also, to be blunt, doesn't the fact that a PC exclusive is only supporting 16:9 out of the gate prove that this is not a console boogeyman issue?

Check out my thread for a tool that works with the GOG and Steam version ;-)

StingingVelvet: 16:9 is the most popular according to the latest Steam survey. 16:10 is right behind that.
According to the Steam survey 31,89% use a 16:9 resolution. That means that the majority has to play with black bars. Most people use a 16:10 resolution (40,76%)
Due to time constraints and money they could only support 1 aspect ratio. Seeing how 70% of the gaming population have widescreen, supporting non widescreen native would make no sense at all, and supporting 16x10 native would make the picture smashed down or have information completely cut at the top and bottom where there is vital information is displayed for 16x9. If only one aspect ratio can be supported due to money and time constraints, then 16:9 makes the most sense.

Anyways, they do have plans on supporting the other aspect ratios, but they said that will happen after they get done with the bug squashing.
I've made a few pics demonstrating what you can expect the game to look like across the different aspect ratios:

16:9
16:10
4:3
5:4

You are joking right ?
16:10 has more height resolution and same length resolution as 16:9 so it can only have more information not less than 16:9.
Ie: 1920x1200 is a 16:10 resolution and 1920x1080 is a 16:9 resolution. same length 1920 for both but the 16:10 resolution has a height of 1200 pixels while the 16:9 resolution has 1080 pixels.

No, I am not joking because you missed understand what I said. I didn't say there would be less information on a 16x10 screen using 16x10 aspect ratio, what I said is that there would be less information on the screen for 16x9 aspect ratio monitor when using 16x10 aspect ration in the game, or will be smashed down to where everything would look shorter and fatter.

Or there would be letterboxing on the sides in a similar fashion to what 16:10 now has.

Actually there would have to be black bars on all 4 sides, not just 2, since 16x10 and 16x9 have the same width. Still having 2 black bars is better then having 4 black bars.

The width is irrelevant, you scale horizontally, resulting in a picture that is the same height and slightly shorter width.
well... why is 16:10 resolution even mentioned in a 5:4 / 4:3 thread?
the bad thing about running this game on 4:3 is the illegible fonts. black bars would not be such a big problem.
and to bump this... does anyone knows the answer for mitcharts's question?
was there an official message from the devs about the aspect ratio fix? or just forum speculations...
The only official information that has been made public is that the aspect ratio fix will come in one of the upcoming patches, though not in the next patch.

Question remains what CD Project Red understood when they say Aspect Ratio fix.

And @ the steam Survey, 70% are not using a 16:9 resolution, so what was this about the majority? ;P
