I've only just started playing Witcher Enhanced, and already the game is stopped dead. I tried searching the foums for this topic without success.

Following the Reverend's quest to gain the trust of three villagers, I found Mikul on the bridge leading east from the city of Vizima. He gave me the quest to kill ghouls in the crypt. No problem, I leave the crypt and head back to the bridge.

As soon as I mount the bridge, Salamandra thugs attack, a fire mysteriously engulfs the foot of the bridge. Despatch the thugs (two of whom were either attempting to flee through the fire, hastening their deaths and making their remains unrecoverable), kill the leader and take his badge. Mikul now won't talk to me and only tells me to get lost. Can't enter the city without a pass, can't leave the bridge because the fire never goes out (and don't get me started about non-solid obstacles you can't run through and ankle-height obstacles you can't step over).

Not sure if it matters, but two of the Salamandra thugs survived, but are no longer conning hostile (although their non-cutscene dialog consists only of "Piss off" and "Shit").

Tried waiting out the fire, missing an opportunity to kill "drowners" and meet the barmaid at the mill, but the fire literally never goes out.

This is obviously bugged. I've googled it, but can only find mentions of this situation without a solution or workaround other than "reload a save". But reloading a save (last auto was as I left the crypt, so not much time lost) ends in the same result every time if I mount the bridge. The only "workaround" appears to be never attempt to complete Mikul's quest, which means never completing the Reverend's quest, which means never finishing chapter 1. Hardly what I would call satisfactory.

Hints? Help? Surprising that people are "celebrating" the game's 10th anniversary when game-breaking bugs like this still exist. Couldn't even find a mod that fixes this.

I am running the vanilla game through the GOG launcher with no mods, and my rig is more than capable of handling the game.

[EDIT] NEVERMIND: On the sixth reload, I got a completely different set of cutscenes when mounting the bridge and the fire went out as soon as the leader was dead. Mikul approached and a new cutscene began ending his quest without my having to interact with him myself. Again, it's really ridiculous that a bug of this magnitude is still present a decade after release.

lots of bugs survive in games. Devs dont' fix bugs past a certain point, they are assigned to work on new games, not old ones. Usually only mods and players will fix bugs on very old games, and sometimes thats more work than its worth when you can simpy look on the internet to get around bugs.

Glad you got it worked out. I dont remember many bugs in the game, hopefully you won't run into anything else.
It must be a very uncommon bug. I have never encountered it or heard of it myself.

3 years have passed and the game still has bugs that make it impossible to progress the story. In my case, as soon as I left the Crypt, my map shows as if I was still in the crypt and doesn't display the map of Vizima's Outskirts, making it impossible to track the missions and know the location of where I should go. This will probably make me give up on the game. How disappointing!

I just finished this part and i'm responding bc I also thought it was bugged. But I think it is just clunky gameplay. I wanted to play dice with Mikul after telling him about Ilsa but he kept telling me to get lost. Then I remembered that Mikul said that he'd be at the Miller's Gate tomorrow and to come find him. So I assumed that was the game's way of telling me to continue on and revisit the character later at the Miller's Gate, which I did. I think there are other points like this where an NPC tells you to bug off and it seems that just coming back later might allow you to advance.

The problem you had with the fire not going out didn't occur for me and that does sound like a weird bug, but as far as Mikul is concerned I'm certain that you can't advance that story line until you meet him at the Miller's Gate.
